Getting low MPG, Help

alright i filled my tank, drove 216 miles and filled it again and it took 15.5 gallons to fill, so if i do the math i'm only getting 14 mpg. wat the heck? according to the sticky i should at least get around 16-17 mpg. any possible ways to fix this? i also have an apexi intake so i don't know if that raises or lowers the mpg, since i'm a total car llama.

driving: 90 gxl na

Can't help you, but I get better mileage in my TII, I have a racing beat cat-back, f-con, boost controller, walboro 255 fuel pump.

I would say check your o2 sensor, and cat (clogged), but I don't really know.

she runs well. a problem with a hot start once in a while but nothing a blip of the throttle doesn't fix. would changing the fuel filter and cleaning the fuel injectors help?

It wouldn't hurt. Actually maybe ur injectors r dirty and r stuck open, causing u to run rich. Try getting them cleaned.

Perform a routine 60K tune up (plugs, wires, timing, compression, etc...), then check your fuel scheduling-related sensors at the ECU (TPS, AFM, the temp sensors, O2 sensor, etc...)

do you have a stock fuel pump? A walbro can kill your MPG. After putting a walbro in my 89 I opted for a FD in my 87, big difference, I get the same MPG with the FD pump. Other than that I get about 19 city and 24 hw in general unless I drive it hard alot. The tune up sounds good too me.

Do you have all three cats still in place? If so, remove them. Now. Or get them replaced, whichever you prefer. Clogged cats are a possible culprit.

But first do what everyone else says - that 60k mile service.

I drive hard and I average 20mpg in the city, so I don't know why everyone gets like 15mpg when they really get on it.

if this was your mileage for one fill up then I'd wait and decide after the next tank to see if what your mileage was. If it is still out of normal range then go for the 60K tune up and check your engine diagnostic codes.

Could that be because you drive a completly stock N/A ?

mine was getting low mileage for awhile, and i kept thinking it was something wrong. I was getting 12-13 on a stock N/A with emissions removed because it was all broken. I tried to keep my foot out of it as much as possible and saw just over 20 mpg this last tank... 8mpg makes a big difference. I went from getting just under 200 miles a tank to this last one being 320

I left out the part about me having fuel problems :P. Fuel pump is either cutting off or just dumping fuel after driving for a while... car bogs, refuses to rev, and studders and pops like crazy.

You could get the RB header/presilencer and swap it with your stock exhaust manifold and cats whenever emissions rolls around. That's what I did for a while, but pretty soon my car will stink so bad it'll make your eyes water.

a replacement cat is like 100-200 bucks, I'd say it's worth it. I'll be doing mine sometime soon here. better gas milleage, emissions and hp.
