Getting Car Painted.
Getting Car Painted.
I'm in the process getting my 88 GXL painted and im stuck on what color to choose. It's current white, but i want it painted the brightest white out in the market. I've seen brighter white but i need to get the color code of the white i want. Does anyone know of a color code, or however they are coded, of a bright bright white??????? I'm in need of a "code" not just the color. Hope everyone understands. Thx

i have a white gxl and i have a blue interior.........
i was gonna do a white paint with a blue pearl in the clearcoat.
i saw it on another car and it looks really really really good.
i say go for that.
prob pretty expensive but worth it.

My interior used to be navy blue, but its Black and white now. The body shop wants to know what shade of white I want, and to find the color code that i want so that they can get the paint. I want BRIGHTEST white i can get.
Wow....what a coincidence. I'm getting my white 89 GTU painted. So far, through my research, the brightest white that I found is either Championship White, which came on only integra type-r's, or Glacier White, which comes on Mercedes Benz S or SLK series only. The code for Championship white is NH-O and I have yet to find out for the Glacier White.
I was thinking of 2002 Lexus Crystal White, but it'll cost me extra $500 since it's a pearl paint. Also I think just flat bright white looks better on sports cars compared to pearl white. Pearl white looks little more soft and round on corners and curves, where as a flat white makes it look sharp.
Through my research I was told that I should put at least 3 coats of clear, but no more than 5 coats for a street driven car. More the clear coat, harder the shell, which means it won't flex and it'll eventually crack. Just for your info, I'm getting 7 coats of paint, for flawless and bumpless paint surface, and 3 coats of clear and prolly wet sanding a layer of that off.

just remember the rx7s look good with some depth - so brilliant white might not be the best. I personally like shell white, the 10th AE Turbo II white, and pearl white.
I have a white vert, but I personally like the 3rd gen R1 yellow color, dark blue, dark red, etc..

The thing you have to remember is that the whites you mentioned still have to be mixed to get that white. Meaning, blue, black, and sometimes orange and yellow are mixed in with it to get that particular shade. Seriously. Championship White is almost a beige in reality.
The ONLY way to get a seriously bright white is to use the white toner itself. Have your local paint shop pour you a can of the toner. If you are using a product like Deltron (PPG manufactured urethane) then you need the catalysts and reducers for that, but the toner itself is already just like a mixed paint. If you are using something like Delstar (PPG manufaactured acrylic enamel) then you need it to be mixed with the appropriate dryer in the can before you take it from the paint store. This is the same for any brand. As long as the can of paint has the appropriate components in it depending on paint type (enamel, urethane, laquer) you will be fine with the toner white.
The ONLY problem is that it doesn't cover well. So... make sure that the last coat of primer before painting is PPG DP48 white epoxy primer. Almost glows in the dark itself
, and makes the perfect base for a couple smooth coats of toner paint.

Pearl white is too much. It's 3 stage paint instead of 2 stages like the regualr paint. your entire car needs to be feather sanded as the pearl WILL show every little flaws on your cars body.
