gets real hot on the track
anyone have overheating problems when on the track? the last drift event we had my car got really really hot after 2laps of constantly 5-7k in 2nd gear and one corner its 3rd gear really quick. so after about 2 laps i'd have to go back into the pits and let it cool for 20 minutes then hop back on track for another 2laps.
my greddy coolant gauge isnt working so i dont know what exact numbers but the cooling fan light came one and iirc thats above 220 f, i kept my heater on full blast through out the whole day.
i have fluidyne radiator, stock fan+shroud, both under belly pan things and a cooling pannel from the radiator support to the radiator. i bleed the system really well. about 70% water 30% coolant, brand new mazda water pump. thermostat is prolly really old since i never changed it.
any ideas what to check for or anything to help cool the engine? anyone try redline water wetter? btw driving around town for hours and the 3hour trip to canada at 3700k all the way i never had any problems with it getting hot. thank you

I have similar problems on the track with my TII. Mind you I have a big turbo and FMIC, which doesnt' help matters.
After about 5 laps (2:10 per lap or so) I would see coolant temps of over 210 F and after about 8 it would be over 220. I ran 80% Water plus Water Wetter. This was on a hot summer day.
I don't consider those temps all that bad considering the high rpms the car is seeing. FD guys that track their cars see the same kind of temps. It could be caused my high rpm cavitation of the water pump. Maybe a pulley would help.
Also creating ducting so that all the air goes through the oil cooler and rad will help for sure.

You could always try the water sprayers for the rad/oilcooler/intercooler as described in the link.

he said he has a Fluidyne
as someone already mentioned, start with replacing the tstat and maybe get yourself an underdriven pulley but if you're driving the car on the street, the pulley would prbly do more harm than good (too slow for street)
look into doing ducting so air goes directly to the rad/oil cooler & not off to the side

Coincidentaly, doesn't straight up H2O have a higher specific heat than when mixing it with glycerol? Kinda off topic, but just thought it. Definately check that thermastat though!
Also check your fan clutch.
Both the S4 & S5 clutch freewheel when cold.
The s4 clutch increases it's bite gradually with temperature rise.
The s5 clutch is more on-off. (It just coasts until is gets warm)
Once they are warm, the fan speed goes up with engine speed to about 4000 RPM.
As the engine revs higher the fan stays at ~4K.
If your warmed up fan only revs up to < 2500 RPM, it's worn out.

also forgot to mention that i had the greddy vspl fmic before i crashed at the event haha so that wouldnt be a problem anymore. when i get my car back i'll change my termostat since its old, inspect my clutch fan and try some water wetter. thanks
^That's why you overheated, the big FMIC blocks airflow to the radiator and oil cooler and it also heats up all the air that they get. Many of the hardcore FD track junkies run stock mount intercoolers so as to not block airflow.
