General Questions

I'm looking at an '86 RX-7 and the guy wants $1,100 for it, I was wondering what are the good and bad things about the 2G RX-7's, as well as upgrades, costs, also FWD? RWD? AWD? AWS? Anything you know would be helpful, thanks.

Just one or two general questions

86 RX7 is a non turbo, RWD, 4 wheel independant suspension hatchback. Depending on the model, they may have Limited slip, ABS, leather, power windows, etc. A non active, very basic 4 wheel steering is standard, and usually removed.

Sorry, but I don't have time to spell out everything good and bad about the car. Read this site, search for RX-7 specific sites, etc. But a few highlights.

good: 50/50 weight distribution, excellent engine with good power (for the time), handles excellent, brakes (with the GXL or sport option) are wonderful.

bad: brittle interior plastic, possible fire danger (86-88), bad fuel consumption (for a 1.3L engine), burns oil normally, reputation for being difficult to smog, sunroof usually dead or sticking by now.

Upgrades... Plenty of them. What specifically are you looking for?

Costs... Not out of the ordinary fora car this age, parts can be expensive compared to hondas or other more common vehicles.

Cya

Ah, problem, I get snow in my area, unless they're some form of magical change, they suck in snow, am I right? Also, I'd be using it for a daily driver and also some street racing and drag.

I drive mine year round. I just bought an extra set of rims from a junk yard and bought some snow tires for it, and whenever I see snow, I just stick em on real quick. Does just fine after that, never gotten stuck or anything once.

HA!

So are you unofficially confused?

LOL.. 100% guaranteed, ABS was available, typically on the GXL (not sure if it was standard on the GXL though)

Which years? I have an 88 GXL - A friend of my brother's has a 'vert (forgot the model) and said that the ABSs only came with TIIs and 3rd gens - not with the GXLs perferbly mine.

In 1988 the ABS was an option on the GXL and TII.

Oh... I should've known.

He said that the ABS would be too big to put on the GXL - even if you could. You'd have to some heavy installation to the brakes and **** to make it fit properly.

Hm, I should start reading more and listen less.
