General question

How much do S5 T2s weigh 89 to be specific? What are some of the easier ways to make the car liter?

if you want more liters put a v8 in it.

if you want it to be "lighter" you could go on a diet.

Research turns up an estimate of 2,850lbs. That's dependent on what options came with the car, what you've done to it so far. You'd be better off having it weighed if you really need to know.

Yea... If you're waiting for someone to tell you exactly how much your car weighs, you're gonna be waiting a while.

The easiest way to free up more power is to remove stuff. Remove the A/C and P/S for mild gains. Remove the carpet, sound deadening, interior panels, plastics, spare tire, and speakers for a more extreme approach. You can also source an aluminum hood, and begin replacing pieces with carbon fiber/fiberglass.

For my track car, it's stripped down without the sound-proofing and the carpeting. That weighs a quite a bit for all of it. You can also remove the stock-seats and get a fibre-glass one that are light. It's a long and patient process to get less weight; just use this simple rule:

If it's not a NEED, then DELETE.

... Heh...

You have to scrape it off the floor under the carpet. Most people use dry ice and chip it off. It's very labor intensive, and not at all worth it for a street car by any means. They say that 100lbs is equal to 1hp. So theres maybe 25-20lbs of sound deadening material in the car?

It's hard for us to give you advice because you haven't told us what your plans and goals for the car are.

Eh.... you've lost my support.

Everything that can be said has been said really. Any generalized write up on weight reduction will point you in the right direction.

V8 is a vegetable drink.

Liter ideas
20b

Lightweight ideas
Strip interior
Make custom dash
Lexan windows
Lightweight rims
Remove wing
Remove emissions
Smaller battery
Fiberglass or CF hood, fenders and seat
Remove HVAC system
Titanium exhaust
Remove sound deadening material
Remove headlights and electric motors, then remove the tops and fiberglass them to hood.
Throw away your fuzzy dice

Thats all I can think of at the moment. I assume you want to know for race application. Otherwise you wouldn't be asking this, right?!

Hey hey! Its just a consideration. i love rotors to the fullest. I just dont want to spend all my money on my rebuild and then blow it up a week after the break in period. I know rotories are good and if tuned well but none are indistructable. The jz are damn near bullet proof from what ive found. But i might just stick to the 13bt. Idk yet. You can put your 2 cents in about this if you want.

Hazard: Are you mehing about drift or the swap? or both? Lol

Tuscanidream: The info youve provided is still good. Thank you.

I don't meh anyone who wants to try drifting, as long as they are serious about it. I've talked to many people who wanted to set their car up for drifting, but what they really mean to say is "I want to set my car up for doing donuts in grocery store parking lots, and act stupid on public roads." That's really what the majority of the "drifters" on here are. The other 20% are serious enthusiasts who have respect for the car and safety of themselves and others. As far as the engine is concerned, an RX7 without a rotary is not an RX7. It's the heart and soul of the car, this board, and this lifestyle. I'm a little biased, but I'm really just busting your ***** about it. You should go ahead with whatever your plan for the car is, I'll probably just hate on it .

I plan doing that stuff on track only. A can't afford major repair bills to the car or myself. Lol.

As for the engine I can't agree with you more. I feel like I'm doing something very taboo even mentioning it, but when I think about the trade off and benefits in this swap I have a very hard time seeing something wrong with the idea. Especialy for drift applications. Idk though. Maybe I'll just stick wih the 13bt and save some more cash for the next time I need a rebuild.

spills happen on the track, too, you're just less likely to kill people and cause severe property damage there

Ya. It's bound to happen at some point I guess. It's never 100% risk free. So long as no one is being hurt and th risk is being brought down to it's minimum possible it's safer than hauling *** on the streets. I know cars break but the can be repaired. Humans are a lot harder to fix.
