GEN2--->v8
Hey guys im new to this list, I currently own a 91 Talon Tsi AWD and was considering buying a second gen rex for a chevy v8 swap. Anyone done this? Ive read about the kits and what not at engineswaps.com but was still muddled by some of the stuff. If anyone has done this what year/model motor did you use and what tranny? How long did it take you and how much did you spend? The site had a list of years that were easiest for swap and with what trannys but that confused the crap out of me. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

yeah dude don't mess up one of our cars it is bad enough that a good bunch of them have been wrecked don't take another one away to the darkside.
If you really like the car you will get it a new (ported motor) if you really want the extra juice under the hood.
If you want a dragstrip car just get something with a V8 already in it.

Look..... alot of people will argue that it's a bad Idea.
What it really comes down to is what you want...
www.v8RX7.com This page will be much more helpful.

Lol sorry, didnt know this subject had already been so thoroughly discussed. The only reason im more or less bent on this project is because the rexs have nearly perfect weight distribution and thus better handling. Ya know i would drive it to and from the dragstrip as well as on it . Plus ive driven camaros/mustangs and they just feel way too bulky (especially the camaro). Plus if you think id be destroying one of your cars, I would probably be saving one from life as a parts car or in a graveyard .

The different engine would destroy the balance because of the most likely heavier engine.
Why can't everyone just stop trying to convince us V8 swappers its such a BAAAAD idea? He started this thread, and really doesn't car at all about your opinions on "don't wreck that poor RX-7 and make it faster than 90% of the rest of them"

I was pointing out what I believe. The fact that the company said this has no ******* influence on me I just like to keep the things the way they are supposed to be damit. I can ******* think 4 my self. The fact that it will not have a rotary engine ***** every thing up it is no longer an rx-7 and would not deserve to b called one. Sure it would be faster but that is not IMMFO what matters at all. My car has lost to a covette but that does not mean that I will put a ******* V12 in it to make sure I win. I lost to a true sports car and walk away knowing I lost to a better car and don't care.

Well since you have been a part of the other posts you will remember how time and time and time again we prove each of your points wrong with FACTS not THEORY. We prove it with cars that still have 50/50 balance, under 3000lbs, cheaper to make power, easier to work on, and faster. Mods please kill this thread...there is no debate.

The basic premise is this: It's your car, if you want a v8 in it then go ahead! but why buy a blown motor TII (for $1000+ for one in decent shape, and n/a trannies won't handle the power)
and then another $3500+ for the v8 swap, and $1500 for a good sbc... plus $who knows how much for misc. expenses... the v8 route is NOT a cheap way to go... You'll be spending alot of money on a car that you'll never be able to get your money back from
Seems like alot of work to do what a mustang does right out of the box, doesn't it?
Again, it's your decision, and v8 rx7s are cool, but make sure you've thought it through and are prepared to spend the $$$.

The cheapest way to 300-500HP = V8. That's even with the swap cost. Go ahead, ask the guys with 300-500HP rotaries how much money they spent on turbos, fuel management, exhaust, electronics, etc. You'll come up with about the same amount it takes to put a V8 in a $200-$500 blown NA RX-7(BTW you don't use the RX-7 tranny in the swap).
