Gee Golly Gosh Darn It. (Brakes)

The rotor retaining screws were stripped stripped on the first rotor I tried to replace. Then I had the bright idea of using a screw extractor instead of just drilling it out.

It broke.

Now I have a chuck of oh-my-goodness-this-metal-is-stronger-than-any-drill-bit-know-to-man-kind stuck in what left of the screw, in such a funny angle that it will be near impossible drill through it straight or centered.

Ideas? Advice? Sympathy?

At this point I might just whip out the angle grinder and grind the rotor down till the head of the screw and the screw extractor are no more.

Maybe I'll even take a picture of the carnage.

Since I started replacing those bolts with Allen heads instead of Philips and using anti-seize during installation, I've never had a problem.
Make sure you coat the under side of the head also as that inverted vee has a lot of surface area.

Easiest way to remove one of those screws that has been messed up:

Use a pointed punch to put a divot in the screw, and then while holding the punch at a slight angle, hit it with a hammer to turn it counter-clockwise. Works easily in seconds!!

Well, it's done.

I bought an impact driver, and it was only able to remove 3 out of the 8 screws. I just drilled the rest out, that went pretty well since they didn't have a screw extractor stuck in them, like 30 seconds each.

For removing broken screw extractors use the dremel diamond piece. works like magic.
