gauges

I was looking through other gauges. I already have an aftermarket OP gauge and a water temp. gauge. Whats the point of an exhaust gauge?

i had pillar gauges...they're not hard to see during the day...but i switched to the 5one5 triple pod that replaces the idiot cluster and like it a lot more...definately more in your line of site and its a lil more covert so passing cops dont notice it and pull you over (cuz here in cali they do that to poeple with pillar gauges)

EGT is used for tuning and also as a warning indicator. I've only seen turbo's with EGT gauges. I would go oil temp if you're looking for another gauge for your NA.

I was talking about the gauges themselves

but yea they do that here and anyone with a single exaust bigger than 2" is a target

good thing I've got duals

uhm... egt responds too slow for you to idenfity rich or lean conditions. the only thing you can use to accurately measure rich or lean air fuel mixtures is a....... Air Fuel Ratio meter.

EGT is most helpful to determine when you have too much timing. In some situations, you can have the proper air fuel ratio, but still have too much timing advance and in that case your EGTs will increase.

Making power is a crazy science!

A good, quality EGT probe (and gauge) responds pretty quickly.
Albiet, it might not react as fast as wide-band EGO sensor.

Wide-band sensors can easily be contaminated and sensor life is measure in hours.
When the wide-band sensor starts to die, it doesn't just quit on you; the reaction time slows down gradually.

The EGT gauge can show rich / lean / too advanced timing / too retarded timing.
The wide-band has no clue which way ignition timing is going.
About the only advantage the wide-band has over the EGT gauge is reaction time (when new) and more precise air / fuel ratio measurement (again, when new).

Those people above who don't point that out above are ignorant on the capabilities on what an EGT gauge can do for you.

He got his 5one5 pod from me. Here is a link where you can see the pods. Just PM me on here and I'll get you sorted out.

And Ted makes a very good point. A high quality EGT gauge can be a VERY effective tuning tool. Though I don't see too much of a need for an EGT gauge on a mildly modded NA. Oil temp would be handy for you. That is about all I can think of that would be worth the money.
