Gas smell when heater on

Hello. I have a question regarding a gas or exhaust smell inside the car while driving with the heater on. I have an '88 GXL. I cannot smell any gas or fuel under the hood, only inside the car. The smell isn't very strong, but it is definitely there.
Any help would be apprectiated!

Does it smell with just normal air on?

It could be the pulsation dampener. The fan blowing the air in from the engine bay area. If your shift boot is cracked or you have an exhaust leak you'll get fumes too and maybe just noticed it when u put the windows up when it got cold.

Check the split air pipe running from the cat to the 5th and 6th port actuators. When I first got my car a few weeks ago, the hose was disconnected and pointing straight towards the underside of the hood. When i rolled up the windows and turned on the heat, I would get a very strong gas/exhaust smell. Find out where its coming from so you dont choke to death
