Gas smell in weird places?

I searched....but didnt see anything really that what it could be. I have a 90' Vert.

I have gas smell through the vents on occassion. I checked the vapor cannister by sniffing around and dont smell gas there, but its definetly on the pass side. I ran the car and looked for leaks and saw none. I noticed it seems to come from down near the airbox area and back at the firewall????? I dont think its the pulsation damper since its a 90'. I also noticed when washing the car I could smell it in the wheel well.

The S5 PD doesn't fail as often as the S4, but they still do fail. Pull the UIM to make absolutely sure it isn't the PD before the car burns down. Also, while the UIM is off you can check and/or replace all the other fuel lines in that area. After 20 years they are probably in bad shape.

I was hoping to avoid this removing the IM. I've replaced the fuel hose before and will replace it again when I do take it off in a few weeks. I have another RX7 to drive for now.

If you are smelling it through the vents, you have lots of fuel spewing out by now. Don't drive it and replace the PD.

Jumper the fuel pump check connector. Key to ON, engine OFF.

The fuel pump should now run continuously and pressurise the fuel rails. Let it run for a full fifteen to twenty minutes. IF you have a fuel leak you should be able to see fuel dripping down on the ground after the fifteen minutes, verifying you have a fuel leak under the intake manifold.

Will do so next weekend. It just seemed odd where the smell seemed to be the most potent (below airbox and outside pass fender well).

Well, I dont see anything? I pulled the intake off and everything seems to be order and tight. I have a primary fuel rail so I'll install that why everything is off. And get the injectors cleaned.

Luckily before I did anything while the car was running I heard the W/P starting to go. So Im working on both now.

You won't visually see anything just by staring at it. You need to jumper the fuel pump plug on the passenger side strut tower and have the fuel flow through the system. Then you should see it leak out the PD.

hahahaha....I know, gas evaporates fast so you have to have it running pretty much to see it leak. I ran the video scope under the lower intake and didn't see anything.

Quit trying to run your A/C with gasoline (r-12 or 134 works fine). J/K

Please fix the leak before the fire (don't ignore it like we did). We lost an 87 TII in the mid 90's to leaking gas (sad sad day).

Oof. That sucks, hardcore.

My FD has some funky smell, as well and that was the culprit (leaky rail), but that's another story. Trying to avoid this in the FC, but can't decide which one I want to teardown first.

Bullocks... COIN TOSS!
