Gas smell

87 GXL Auto

Lately, and rarely, when starting the car there is a gas smell. Just wondering if it is something I should be worrying about or not. It happens very rarely and I was trying to pin point when it happens but it doesn't matter what time sometimes it is on first start in the mourning and sometimes after the car is warm. Is it just flooding a bit?

Thanks guys peace out

I replaced a plugged charcoal cannister and that fixed my problem. Thought it was the PD , but wasn't

While your looking for your gas smell issue, here are some things to check since your in that area; pulsation damper for leaks, charcoal cannister for clogs, fuel injector rubber o-rings and grometts for cracks and leaks, fuel filter for clogs. If the problem persists and there are no clogs or leaks around the engine bay area you could have a cat or two going bad assuming you still have your stock exhaust.

That is the fuel filter, if it is leaking, fix it.

The pulsation damper is just underneath the dynamic chamber (upper intake manifold). You can see it right back of the thermostat housing. It is on the primary fuel rail.

IF YOU SMELL GAS, FIX IT!!!

(Take it from someone who ignored it, you don't want an engine fire.)
