you cant SEE leaks, fuel evaporates. if it smells like gas, there is probly gas. but as far as emissions, if its bone stock it should pass. if not, do a search for "pass emissions" and you will pass

to pass smog is tricky..depends on tuning ,the catalytic, wether you have an air pump on it..if you would like to get an rx7 you should(no disrespect) research the car a bit..because you will be gettin to know it pretty quick (quirky) if you don't...they are nothing like piston, get it and go ,look under the hood once a year..these cars need to be maintained and if you want reliability you most likely will not get it with the 7..i'm not tryin to discourage you,the decision is left to you ...if you don't know **** about cars ,then i would (sorry) in my honest opinion..be thinkin hard about if you buy rotary or reliability..my$.02

read the faq

do tuneups earlier for rotaries than pistons....its in the fsm, and faq i think

and yah...i htink i have a fuel leak somewhere...but might now, i get 14mpg city though with airpump removed and 5th and 6th ports not working cuz of my stupid exhaust

and the pd seems to be quite clean.....need to take a close inspection one day

My car does not smell like gas! It smells a little like burning oil sometimes but I'm told this is normal. I agree that this is not a car for people who don't like to work on cars. Since I bought the thing about a month ago, I've put almost $1K into it, counting the new CV joints next week. Paint will be about that much more, and it does not always run perfectly, particularly in the bitter cold we have around here. Still, it is a fun car, good-looking, and fairly reliable. It should pass emissions tests without any problem though. In Colorado, they let you do the test again for a reduced fee if your car doesn't pass the first time, and the report they give you can point out problems if it doesn't pass. I wouldn't worry about that so much as I would the gas smell. I know the guys above said it's normal, but I don't think that's right. A strong smell of gas is never good. My advice, let your parents pick out a good reliable car, and take their advice (they've been driving a lot longer than you have). When you grow up and are makin good money and can support a car like this, then go for it. On the other hand, it's pretty likely you won't get laid in this tiny little car, so that is a plus (for your parents).

Yeah, gas smell is definitely not normal unless you've messed with the emissions or something is out of order. I've had a pristine FC before and it smelled like nothing. The rest of my RX7's smelled like gas and oil. I prefer to call it my Wankel cologne.

I smelled fuel while driving my car, pulled over and checked out the PD and it didn't have 1 drop on it. Then when I was driving to work one day it ******' burst into flames. REPLACE the PD anyways, plz replace it PLEASE!

you haven't even bought the car,you are trying to suck you parents into buying it for you and it is not even in your possession yet,..do i need to say more..if you are not mechnically inclined don't buy it..unless you want to spend money that could be used to take a mechanic's course..you buy this car..there are some basement storage facilities in louisiana ..i'm sure you can get to park the car there..just as good a deal as the car..looks are deceiving ..and if you don't know in the least what you are lookin for (or at)..read up..if you impulse buy..you are setting you and your parents bank account up for a little fall..rotaries are cars that need attention..and as jasmine says ..if you are lookin for reliability..buy another make of car..the rx7 is not the only "fish in the sea"

damn you guys, tearing the kid down before he has a chance, look, you like the car? does it run well? how many miles are on it? how much will you be driving it? how old are you? are you WILLING to learn about cars if you get this car, because i assure you that these cars are alot easier to work on yourself than a FWD honda or toyota of some sort. these are the questions you should be asking your self. oh and also, would it kill you if you had to have your car out of comission for a few days while you are working on it?
