Gas/Oil Smell on clothes after driving stock Turbo II?

This is my first post, but I have searched this forum up and down for any reference to the issue that I am having with no results.

Is it normal for you to smell like you just got done cutting the grass when you get out of your car? You know that gas and oil smell that sticks to your clothes and when you come back inside your wife tells you how much you stink. My car makes me smell like that after only driving it for a few minutes.

I have taken my car to RP performance in Maryland and the guy there keeps telling me that it is normal. That doesn't seem right to me. My car is almost stock with the only modifications being an intake/cat back exhaust, FCD and boost controller. There is no way that a stock RX-7 should make it's passengers smell like that.

I can't drive my car to work because I would smell horrible. I originally bought the car with the intention of using it as a daily driver that i could put some money into and maybe take out to some autocross events for fun. Obviously that is impossible.

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. If there is a thread that deals with this issue and I have missed it, please point me in that direction.

I had the same problem, turned out a hose on the charcoal canister was loose.... Put a new piece of hose, and no more smell!! Its the black canister on the passenger side, near the windshield. Has two hoses connected to it...... hope this helps

thats what rotaries smell like. if u have no cats or hollowed ones then its ten times worse than a stock exhaust. a little trick i learned is to not walk behind the car. or keep a small bodle of axe or somethen in ya car.

Dave - The Cats are still there.

SGesel - I will take a look at the charcoal canister. What is it's function?

charcoal is just a ventalation system.

More then likey you have exhaust leaks and FC's are not seald the best you know. If you had a perfect condition exhaust and the cracks seald up some more inside the car to prevent gases it would not smell. I mean the engin has one function air and fuel in gases out.

Basicly leaks bud but it is normal after all these years. Your interior might already reak of it making you smell of it when you sit in for a ride. I smell like this when I ride my street bike and thats evry day to work.
