Gas in oil - I have done my research!

Gassy smelling oil is pretty normal for a rotary, check!

S5 NA with 20,000 on the engine. Not just some ordinary rebuild, new housings and irons. We only re-used the rotors.

My oil isnt thin or anything, it just reeks of gas. I know I should send it off to blackstone but don't have that kind of money at this point ( I am not broke, but you know those times between pay checks and bills!).

I have been watching carefully at my oil level as I have always have and instead of going down it has gone up. During my research, I am really starting to suspect the purge valve. I started getting the lung butter crap in my oil filler tube last winter but didn't have any issues but now I am getting way too much gas in my oil. Tommorow, if morons dont ruin my day I plan on testing it per the FSM and if it fails then what?

Temporary solution until I can make it stock again?

Lung butter in winter?...look at it this way.
Cook something and put a lid on it and then refrigerate it.The condensation is your "lung butter".
The oil system isn't 100% ventilated so Some **** will remain.

For crying out loud, its only $28. Even a panhandler can afford that. Just find a nice piece of cardboard and see if you can borrow a thick black marker from somebody. You should be able to afford the oil analysis after about 2 hours of standing on the side of the road.

Is there also debris on the front of the radiator, occasional leaves stuck down in the rear of the hood by the wiper blades, dust on the dashboard, bugs smashed on the front fascia, occasional bird droppings on the top of the car, and little rocks on the floor? You may have a major problem on your hands. It sounds like you need a KaleCo 710 cap.

Is your oil metering pump working?

I strongly think that you only notice the fuel in the oil if your MOP is nonfunctional so you aren't constantly fresh oil to the engine.

The richer you run the engine, the more fuel you add to the oil, as well.

Short trip driving.

Hey man-you drive short trips. That leads to the oil never warming up long enough to purge the moisture and gas blowby.

Just change the oil more often and quit living so close to work!

yeah, you need to boil out the stuff, or pay the 28 for an analysis and have your peace of mind... i've had a rotary 's oil gain level before too... i lived 2 miles from work.

Mine did the same thing, reeked of gas as soon as i changed the oil, and its about 10 miles for me to get to work, so enough for the engine to get warmed up, but not get the oil real hot to boil it out

Its another one of those rotary quirks

If you run premix, I would think oil that smells like gas is a normal occurrence. Short trips augment it. It's still fairly normal though. My oil turns greenish blue before I change it, due to the blue premix in my fuel. My engine is still pretty fresh; probably less than 30k miles since the rebuild.

I remember reading in the RX-7 book that the original Cosmo 10A had fuel problems in the oil when mazda entered it into an endurance race. They supposedly had to run a "catch can" to keep from blowing the oil pan off. I would think as long as you aren't gaining too much between oil changes it should be fine.

I think its just normal. i did black stone and got a reading of like 6% gas after 3k. One cavoat being this oil came from my catch can and not the oil pan but considering I empty out that catch can every 200 miles.

have a rebuilt s5 t2 engine. using premix since rebuilt. noticed this after first oil change. and just kept it like it. no problems, but change oil more regularly, since i notice oil level building... probably a result of added fuel, just a note.
