Guage Cluster

The lights for my guages went out. I pull the unit, and all the bulbs are good. I think there is a short between the fuse block(right name for it?) and the socket it hooks onto, and i am not sure i want to dig through the harness to find the short. I am think of just by passing the harness all together, just to get it working for now. anyone have any input on this? Also does any one know of a good place to look up a wiring diagram. Its a 88 10 AE.

My headlights come on, so i don't think its the relay. But i could be wrong. They worked after i bought the car, but then it came home and sat in the driveway for a while, i have been working on it, but none of the interior wiring type stuff. The past owners of this car have cut wires where ever they see fit to get power for things. Anyways, any other ideas?

not headlights...running lights...we need to know if your running lights come on...it may be in the switch, which is notorious for failure.

Other wise just check over all the places where they've cut to splice in power supplies.

okay, sorry to be stupid, but when you say running lights which ones do you mean, the position between nonething, and the headlights coming on and up? Mean the orange lights in the front? Cause i would have called those parking lights, but maybe thats just me

runnin lights are: parking lights, side marker lights, and tail lights

Look at the switch and tell us if any of the pins or anything are burnt.

you can't really bypass the switch without hard wiring them with another switch...been down that road.

#1: In the USA It's spelt Gauge. Not guage. It's spelt gage in canada, according to GM. (look at the inside of any Canadian cavalier, and gauges is spelt gages. wtf, I dunno why.)

#2: There is no number two. Make sure when you correct people's spelling, you spell it right yourself.

Ok I am going to jump in here and see if I can help.

When you turn on your lights do the rest of your interior lights/illuminations (IE radio lights, HVAC lights, etc) come on? If none of your lights come on then you probably have a bad switch. Mazda over engineered these switches and they are prone to failure in all sorts of weird ways. I believe I have an extra working one laying around if that is your problem I will just send it to ya.
