FYI weight reduction

just figured id give my input.

all this weight reduction im always seeing people talk about here, take this out, take that out, remove this, ive never heard anyone take these out before..

in the back of the car, theres 2 towing hooks. they are held on by 6 bolts each. these together weigh prob about 5 lbs, and theres another one in the passenger front next to the bottom of the washer fluid bottle.

add them all together, bolts, brackets and all the rocks caught between, its almost 10 lbs.

you can still use the control arms to tow the car if it needs to be towed, or just dont break down...because we all know that rx7's would never do that, but ive also removed my spare tire, so im screwed either way, but that's my $0.02 cents.

if you left one on, you still could be pulled onto a flat bed tow truck.

When I got Into a jam, the flat bed used my Lower Control Arms to bring It on top.

If my fetish persists on removing what I don't need, than I'll remove those towing hooks too.

i took mine off last night. my scale in my bathroom tells me i weigh 610 lbs, so i dont think its right. last i checked, im 145. if anyone weighs these, and the bolts (theres a lot of them) and the rocks stuck in betewwn, let me know how much weight you took off.

every bit counts

Since we are on the subject of Weight reduction. I was thinking... How much does the cars paint weigh? Like 20LBs? (the average paint job is what, like, 2 coats of clear, 3 coats of paint?) What if you just got the car clear coated, no paint. that would be some weight reduction.... It wouldent be good looking. but you know what they say. Funtion over form. just a thought.

it would save a little weight. i think it takes a pint of paint to paint a car, not sure its 20 lbs though. just clear coating it over bare metal would look like a delorian, but the bumpers are black. itd look weird.

Or you could prime and do two coats of basic enamel after removing all paint.

Get rid of your tar under the carpet. it is about 30 pounds (I saved it as I chiseled it off and got a rough estimate of poundage). Also get an aluminum hood, do away with the windshield washer setup, rat's nest, air pump silencer, front bumper reinforcement, CPU plate, firewall sound deadening mat, and all the other little mats of sound deadening stuff under the carpet. There is a lot of little stuff that you don't need hiding under the skin of your FC.

"CPU plate"

So that would be the drivers side kick pannel?

If you meant ECU plate thats not very smart to eliminate, because all it takes is some dumb bitch to kick the harness and the two of you will be stuck for a while. (and you won't be horny at the time either)

I usually don't refer to women as "dumb bitches" but I had just had an encounter with one I do call that often, and she is the one I would expect to have no caution or respect for a nice ride and go ******* things up.

I know plenty of guys who've kicked out $300 speakers mounted in that same location too. So its not just women you have to watch out for.

Why dont you just strap a 13B to a skateboard, put an RX7 sticker on it, and have the ultimate in weight reduction?
