Full power steering conversion
I found a guy who has everything I need for a conversion (rack, pinion, pump bracket, pump, and the computer) with decent mileage on them (about 62k-78k) but he wants $400 + shipping for them. Sounds a bit steep to me. Is that about the right price for everything? I was hoping I can get everything for a bout $200.

IF you have an early model 86 or 87 without PS, in most cases the wiring does not exist in the car to add PS. The PS is electronically controlled via a computer under the dash, to an electronic PS pump. IF you want to check, there should be 2 white plugs within 6" underneath the engine bay fusebox, which is where the PS pump would plug into, and there should be a larger white plug under the dash within 6" of the driver speaker where the computer would plug in.
IF this is an 86-88 model that originally came with PS but someone has removed it, then you can reinstall all the parts and have it work again. IF this is an 89-91 model that someone has removed the PS (they all came with it) then you can also reinstall 89-91 parts and have it work again. The wiring/parts are different for s4 versus s5.
Further complicating matters, there are 2 versions of s5 PS, one has 2 hard lines on top of the pump and one has only 1 hard line on top of the pump.
And yes, stock PS parts should be quite cheap because 1) there are tons of partscars on the market and 2) many people remove their PS anyway. I'd say everything is worth 100 bucks plus shipping at most. When I used to part out cars I would never even pull any of the PS stuff because it was not worth anything.
