fuel system

so i jumped the fuel check connector. then turned key on n went by fuel pump n i heard a whinning noise coming from it. but it kept sounding. i replaced the fuel filter, mine was clogged still nothing. so im thinking im not gettin any pressure in my fuel system. gotta get a gauge n see. im pretty sure there are no leaks anywhere. could it jus be my fuel pump?

If you disconnected the fuel hose that returns the fuel back to the fuel tank, return line, and placed that hose in a jug and jumpered the fuel check connector and w/key to on the fuel ought to pour into the jug at a pretty quick rate.

Sounds like the fuel pressure and return lines are still crossed where they mate to the engine.

maybe that the fuel pump has come off of the hanger in the fuel tank, it would be spraying fuel across the tank and not up the feed tube.

IF the pump runs theres no problem with relay etc. Right? Right.

The second post on this thread suggested doing what you should do. Remove the Return line from the engine interface.

Jumper the fuel pump check connector. Key ON. Fuel should flood the floor and should be coming from the engine return hard line.

If it does not, then pull the Pressure line off and put it in a container. Jupmper the fuel pump check connector and turn the key ON. Fuel should pour out of the line attached to the fuel filter.

If fuel comes out of the fuel filter but did NOT come out the return line on the engine when you tried that earlier................you have the fuel routed wrong on the engine somehow.

The last thing on the engine prior to the fuel going into the fuel reurn line is.........the FPR. If you have the return line going to anything other than the FPR then the fuel routing is wrong on the engine.

Typical fuel path for na and turbo shown in the jpgs.

Like someone mentioned earlier...............remove the pump from the gas tank and see if the hose clamps fell off the pump or??? on the bottom is that filter/strainer that might be clogged. Sometimes those will varnish over and you can't tell they are clogged up or not.

On the other hand you could remove the pump and find a gas tank that is full of rust/corrosion causing the clogging up of the bottom filter/pump.

Just remove the ???? ten or so screws and lift the pump up and out. Takes some manipulation of the pump to get it out.

Always bothersome to me to have a gas tank with a large oval opening in it's top open to god knows what. Some danger involved but we all do it.

I guess you could put it in a bucket of water and jumper power and gnd to it..........but its probably easier to rip the sock off and just put it back in the tank with a few screws and turn it on with the output line in a ???? container? to see if that helped or not. No output .......new pump.

I believe the pwr wire is black/white on the pumps pigtail and black for gnd. But like I said......just as easy to just pull the sock off and reinstall temp and turn the pump on.

I was about to mention that. I made the same mistake when I hooked up my walbro (technically my friend wired it up backwards...). Couldn't figure out why I got no fuel.. lol

Not sure why yours ended up like that though... have you rewired anything recently?

Yep. Odd. Sounds like a *first* for this forum.

The Black/White wire on the pigtail harness on the pump itself should be power and black the gnd.

The Black/white wire on the pigtail harness should mate with a pure blue wire at the connector that mates with the rear body harness.
