Fuel Mileage

it seems that no matter how i drive, conservative or ***** to the wall, i seem to get 200 km to a tank. is anyone else experiencing this? or could it be due to a bad o2 sensor or something??

a km is how many miles?? .62 or something like that, meaning that you get 125 Mile per tank???

Yeah that is about half of what you should be getting with even agressive driving.

When was the last tune up done??? do you have flooding issues??? what is the compression on all the rotor faces???

Way too low. Do a full tuneup as per the FAQ and see how things go after that. The O2 sensor really doesn't effect mileage all that much.

Yeah, something isn't right. I easily get twice that on a tank, and I have a lead foot and redline all over the place. I think I've gotten 400 MILES to a tank on the highway.

Another thing you have to watch is your fuel level sender, see, I too was getting about 125-150 miles to a tank, and I thought wait thats not right.

Went to the gas tank to fill up when she says it was on E, and it only put 8 gallons in...

SON OF A ! My fuel level sender was/is bad, so now I get to guess! (

Same here, my fuel level sender is also bad. It will read empty after 100 miles. It will never read any accurate measurements. I have a new fuel gauge and i just ordered a new fuel level sender. If your car is tuned and well maintained it could be the fuel sender.

hmm. ok thanks, lots to think about. i guess i'll start with a complete tune up, top to bottom. if not i will look into the fuel level sender. how big is the tank exactly, 45 50 litres? so like 11.25 or 12.5 gallons?? im putting 38-40 litres into it each fill up. (200km on a good week)

The tank is 16.6 gallons on a 86-88 and 18.5 gallons on a 89-92

You should put in around 13-14 gallons if you fill up when the fuel light is just starting to come on.

i usually get about 240-250 per tank, but i very rarely fill up, i only really do half tanks, but 240-250 is pretty agressive driving and a few times ive gotten 300-400 per tank juts driving on the freeway for long stretches doing about 70-80 most of the way.

I can usually hit 300 miles (482 km) right around where the low fuel light comes on (which, in my car, requires almost exactly 13 gal to fill from). I know I could push it to 350+ miles without flaming out, but I just don't like running the tank totally dry. It's hard on the fuel pump, and I like having the ~50 mile reserve just in case I have to chase for a functioning gas station for some reason.

thats sucks cuz my 88 vert turbo ii gets less than 200 miles on a full tank! I'm going to do a complete tune-up but can it really cause gas milage that bad?

I also went to change my thermostat, only to find there was not one in there, causing the car to run rich. Could that be part of the problem?

Having no thermostat can cause all kinds of issues, not the least of which is overheating.

It sounds like the car was mildly hacked. You need to go through everything and make sure that sensors are where they should be, wires are not cut and spliced, etc. Specifically check the engine coolant temp sensor on the back of the water pump housing, and the air temp sensor on the intake. Factory Service Manual (FAQ) is a great help for this.
