Fuel filter replacement question

I am going to replace my fuel filter soon. I read the 1300cc article and I'll be able to handle the task. My one question is about those metal "clips" that hold the hoses to the filter. Can those be reused after I take them off? If not would any auto parts store have replacements?

Prepare to get gasoline all over yourself. If the filter has never been changed expect it to be a PITA to remove. I use pliars and a clamping/twisting method.

I prefer to:

A: double clamp all my fuel lines
B: use 1 spring clip and 1 screw clip

you wont want to use conventional screw type clamps use the band type clamps that are ment for fuel injection

the old screw type clamps tend to cut the hose a little and with the high preasures of fuel injection that can cause problems

Is it necessary to ruin my dreams?

I will have to look for some/purchase band clamps then as I have the regular screw ones.

It is much easier if you take the hoses loose on the ends away from the filter. After you have it out, then get the hoses off the filter itself. It's pretty difficult to work on the filter when it's installed. Just a suggestion. :-)

I took the bottom hose off then just pulled the filter up through the engine bay.

At least somebody agrees with me...

When I got my car, all the fuel lines just had 1 spring clamp on them. That worked fine apparently since, well, I was able to buy the car. So I put those back on and threw on a spring clamp for added peace of mind.

That only happens if you're silly and overtighten them. I've never had a screw clamp damage a hose.

That's crazy overkill. One screw good clamp is all you ever need, and I've never seen a screw clamp unscrew itself. The stock clamps are okay when first installed but loose tension every time you remove and replace them.

You need to remember that the clamp is not there to hold the hose on by pure friction, it's mainly there to stop the hose being able to expand over the lip at the end of the metal pipe.

I use those and they are great. Won't damage the hose and you can get the size that directly fits your line 3/8" without have problems getting it on or off. Look much better also.

No, don't reuse the stock clamps. Get new ones.

Well if you really think that then you'd better go and do the same thing to all 15 connections in the fuel system. Just doing two is pointless.

I did...

I have every fuel hose double clamped.

I have a lot of the air hoses clamped, including the big rubber one coming from the box (thats a big clamp ).

I think he is talking about the hose at the back of the intake box going to the airpump.
