Fuel filter replacement.

I just want to make sure I do this correctly, although I feel like it's a simple task. Will fuel leak out a lot? Will I need to plug the fuel line or something? And will I have to raise the car and do it from underneath or could I simply do it from the engine bay.

So long as the ignition key isn't one when you're doing it:

no, no, no, yes

Sounds good What about the fact I just finished driving? Should I let the car cool down first?

Relieve the pressure in the fuel system by disconnecting the AFM while the car is running and let the car die. That will kill the fuel pump and minimize the fuel spray when you disconnect the lines. There will still be a bit of fuel coming out the lines and emptying out the filter, so have an oil pan ready.

Well... No key on and guess what happens. Fuel starts leaking out so not only do I have hands filled with gasoline but so is my engine bay. So am I basically at risk of my engine bay catching on fire?

EDIT: Wish I seen that before I tried. Just going to let someone who knows what they're doing. I don't feel like ******* anything up again by doing the simplest of tasks.

it will drain fuel.. the fuel filter is big.. It will hold some fuel.. You will have fuel coming off of it.. Just make sure no flames are near by. Because you will have fuel draining. Just make sure the Key is off. and the bat is unplugged. You will be fine. Oh. also make sure the system has no fuel pressure.
If its an FC the fuel filter its on the drivers side Far corner Firewall Down low

The bat? I don't know where much is in the engine bay.

Already tried replacing it but too much fuel was coming out so I panicked and plugged it back in. I'll just wait until the end of the month when I'm heading back to visit family and will replace it then along with plugs and wires.

You're over thinking the situation.

You release as much of the pressure the fuel pump otherwise builds before you open the fuel line. But there is still going to be some, so there will be some amount of fuel spill. It can't be avoided.

It's because I work in an hour aha. I'll do it tomorrow when I have the day off so I don't have to rush things.

It's not as fun when you work in a kitchen afterwards and you smell like gasoline and work with food, aha.

Bat. = battery. To relieve pressure in the fuel line you pull the plug connected to the Circuit Opening Relay, which powers the fuel pump, and start the car and start the car and the engine will quickly die due to a lack of fuel. You can also open the gas filler cap to help alleviate the pressure.

Post #6 pic #1 of relay located under the dash and just to the right of the steering column.

I've never worried about releasing the fuel pressure before changing the fuel filter on any gasoline powered car. Yep your going to get fuel drainage. And it always looks like a ton. I try to use the dust caps that come with the new filter to minimize the amount that flows out.
