fuel filter removal

I have rx-7 convertible where the fuel filter is by the steering column. I am trying to remove the 10mm nut that holds the fuel filter to the wheel-well. When I rotate the nut with a wrench through a 90 degree arc, it simply springs back to the starting position without loosening. It looks like a piece of rubber behind the filter holder is allowing this motion, and then springing back. The filter itself does not move. Has anyone figured out how to get this 10mm nut to break loose?
--Appreciate any advice anyone has to offer.

I just use a ratchet, however, I also do it from under the car.

I will give it a try from underneath. Do you have the problem where it moves without the nut coming loose from rust?

I pull the filter bracket, swap the filter on the bench, & reinstall the assembly.

yah, just go by that 1300cc instruction. also, you may want to drain the tank as well, so you can depressurize the fuel system easier.

lub the fuel pipe before you put the plastic line back.

I don't think you need to drain the tank but it would be good to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump assembly.

Yea i got road grease and gas in my hair, and washing my hair 10-15 times afterwards still left black/brown pillowcases when I woke up. So either disconnect the fuel lines or plug the line is HIGH RECOMMENDED!

I am having the same problem getting the filter bracket off the car. Nobody has actually said how to get this thing loose. I can get the top nut off, but the bottom one just twists on the rubber backing. I am trying to get this from underneath the car and have had no luck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yeah, the fuel filter is a bitch to get too because it's in such a narrow space. There's a connector for the fuel pump on the driver side speaker column which you can connect to kill the car and relieve fuel pressure in the lines. But I was still drenched with 93 octane when I took off the hose that went into the filter. That's a lot easier then disconnecting fuel lines from the pump in my opinion.
