Fuel filter change
Fuel filter change
I changed my fuel filter this weekend, I unclipped the fuel pump connector in the trunk to depressurize, let it stall, then opened the gas cap.
Still the gas kept following out of the tank side of the line, is this normal?
Besides the gas bath went o.k., one of those 10mm bolts was rusted on.

Yeah you have to stick a bolt in the fuel line from the tank, otherwise it just keeps coming out, just like it did. When you disconnect the fuel line and let the car stall out, it is just to depressurize the line from the filter to the engine. I did have it easy and have a fuel cut off switch... Turn on the car and flip the switch. Depressurizes the line, but there is still a bit of a mess when you disconnect the line from the filter to the tank. Don't worry about it leaking, it's fine.
get ya some new fuel line, add about 2' compared to old one you'll be taking off from the metal line underneath, run it up to where the right strut tower & lower frame rail meet (keep it away from the steering linkage), and install the new filter there, with bracket/ bolt/ whatever... now the filter's above the tank, and a whole lot easier to change next time- no more crawling under the car & taking a fuel bath
I did mine a while ago, and the hose just kinda stayed bent up (from being like that forever) and no gas really came out of it. I'm sure what was coming out is what was left in the fuel line, not leaking from the tank.
