Fuel dump issue

Hey guys I have an 87 RX N/A. I'm dumping a lot of fuel. Does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this? I was told it may be a sensor. I replaced the factory O2 sensor with a bosch one. No change.

"Dumping a lot of fuel" doesn't make any sense unless it's in a puddle on the ground. Explain what's actually happening.

gutting the cat. will that do something to the fuel/air ratio? wow...thats weird, maybe running too rich? the O2 sensor tells the engine how rich to run and how lean to run...the O2 sensor should have changed something....odd, i never knew...

gutting the cat just means there's no real way for the exhaust to burn off the the unburnt gas. therefore making the car smell like and maybe look like it's running rich, which if it's an N/A it just might be...

The O2 sensor is only used during steady-speed, low-load driving. It only has a very small impact on fuel consumption unless you do mainly highway driving. It's one of the last things you need to check if you have high fuel consumption.

i dont know if you knew this before you bought the thing but RX7's are not know for being 'economy' cars, they get shitty gas mileage but it is at a cost for FUN

Without more information, all people can do is guess. What exactly is the problem? Poor mileage? Fuel puddling on the ground?

If it's mileage, check out the FAQ. Mileage is well covered.

If you have a leak, well then FIX IT before you drive the car. Jump the yellow connector at the passenger shock tower and then turn the key to IGN. This causes the fuel pump to run continuously. Now look for the leak. Fix it, then clean up spilled fuel.

Thanks guys. There is no fuel actually running out of the motor. It is the mileage issue. The car smells real rich inside, almost to the point of sickness. I appriciate the pointers. I probably get about 12-13mpg. I guess that a normal thing?

and the O2 sensor is located Before the catalytic converter, therefore anything you do aft of the catalytic converter is not noticed by the O2 sensor during closed loop.

Go for a 200 plus mile drive. You should get around 25mph at a constant 70moh Interstate hwy run. I've seen 98 Ford Windstar, six cylinder vans get better open road milage.

Around town? Depends how you drive.
