FTP Mod rules!

Greetings! I recently purchased the Flash To Pass moded light switch. Let me tell you what. This is a great mod that is cheap and makes the FC stand out even further! I got it from:

http://www.mazdamark.com/switches.htm

Icemark, thanks again for the great product and quick shipping!

i did the good ol' homebrew FTP lights, put some autozone fogs behind the lenses. works brilliantly, i love 'em. illuminates the road that much more for those midnight drift sessions.

No the turn signals will barely light them through. The setup at the top uses a rewired switch that makes the headlights stay in the down position unless you flip the seperate up down switch (emergency option from mazda) that was used for cars in ice prone areas....

oh i see, i was confused. i thought those were the JDM FTP lights. anyway that is cool though, but i guess it does the same thing as removing the fuse.... but less ghetto.

You can accomplish the same effect by running a wire to the red/white and putting it on a switch to ground, just flip the switch and on they go.

you can do the same **** by pulling on of the main fuses, in the engine bay for the headlight motors. keeps them from coming up but the lights still work. if you want them up, simply put the fuse back.

I just wired in a switch to my high beams, that doesn't activate the head light motor relays.

Cost me $1.50, and about 25 minutes. It's a neat red switch, too, in my center console. I tell ricers it's NAWZZ.

^^^ AAA so this makes the high beams come on with the lights down?

Other question: With the headlights down and shining through the FTP lenses (or lack of FTP lenses in my case lol) is it better to drive with the hi or low beams shining through?

It's better to drive with the fog lamps on. I tested them last night on a dark road, and I could not see much of the road. When I put on the high beams I could see further, but less of the road. Adding the (Stock) fog lamps into the mix, I can see the road, however when I turn on the high beams the fog lamps turn off.

Yes this modified switch simply removes the circuit for the headlamp's motor from the light switch only. You still can raise and lower the lamps with the service/cleaner switch above the main head lamp switch.

This only took 25 min to complete. Basically you open the shroud around the instrument cluster, (5 screws) then you unplug the harness for the wiper and the light switch. Next move the shroud so you can unscrew the 3 screws that retain the light switch. Pop off the pertruding buttons, and remove the switch. Insert the new one, and follow the reverse steps.

This system is perfect for driving during the day, at dusk, in rainy weather,in the fog, in the city, in stop and go freeway traffic, and of course.. cruising the strip!

Having eight lights on the front of your car at night has to look *somewhat* ghetto.

I've been running my version of this since 1999 and have not had any issues.

(Wow a post on my thread from the great Aaron Cake!)

Do you have any pictures of this? I see some on the site, but none explicitly of this mod.

Also what does the 3M on your license plate mean?

I've done the same thing, and going on 2 years now there is absolutely no melting of anything whatsoever. I'm using very hot halogen bulbs.

My write-up can be found Here.

I don't think I have any of the car running with the lights on. Looks exactly yours but without the lower foglights.

There's been a writeup on my site for about 7 years on how to do this. I linked to it earlier in the thread.

That's a great site you have there. I have been reading the accident page. Man you and your seven have had some crappy luck!

Nice job on that MP3 server. I have also put mp3 players in 3 of 4 of my cars, and none of them looked as cherry as yours.

This probably should be a new thread, however I think I should be able to hijack my own thread....

Since I have this FTP mod installed now, I need a good way to clean the FTP lenses. There is some moisture trapped between the lenses. Is it possible to recondition them? I have never taken out the lenses themselve, so I don't know how they are held together. Thanks for tips!

What I did, too. You just went into more details, talking about wire color.
