FTP are not lights, they are lenses that allow the headlight lamp light to flash through the lenses when you want to signal you're going to pass the car in front of you. Without the lenses, there would be now way to signal.
When the lights are up, the bulb is completely out of the car, so there is nothing to shine through the Flash-To-Pass lenses.
With the head lights up, just flick on your high beam on and off to signal a pass.
Only way to make them work with the headlight up would be installing a set of bulbs in there all the time or do the sleepy eye (de)modifcation. (Headlights are up halfway ALL the time-looks broken in my opinion)

you can also get a set of jdm ftp lenses. Those light up. I think theyre like 200 for a set. You can always do a custom job and put some small fog lights in there or a really strong small light bulb.

I was thinhing of doing the sleepy eye (de)modifcation but putting two circluir lights like how it is at http://live4boost.rx7life.com/conversion.htm
and the having another small light for the FTP lenses
but I was also thinking of taking them out for more airflow.
Is that worth it to take them out
any opinions???

With the lights half down, you don't get much airflow anyway. Leave the FTP lenses in.

Stock or not, there really is no mod to removing them. (especially if you have the stock air box).

I was interested in cutting out from the bottom of the lights to the FTP and making a large bucket that sat in there with possibley three lights
1 large light (4in?) towards middle of car
1 med. light (3in?) towards outer edge of car bottom
1 sml. light (2in?) towards outer edge of car top
And I would like a small vent between the top of the light and the bottom of the hood
But it seems like more than I can handle.

I will probally do the conversion at http://live4boost.rx7life.com/conversion.htm
It looks like its broken unless you change over to the round lights

The lights from RP are $170+/pair. Here they are on my car with the old U.S. version being held:

Don't waste your money on Japanese FTP lights. Despite what you may hace seen on Gran Turismo, they're NOT bright lights, they're 5W marker lights just like you already have. The photo above makes them looke brighter than they really are. Trust me, in real life they're nothing special.
The Japanese Series 5 fog lights are identical to US ones and are white, not yellow.
