front main bolt leaking oil

well, today i took the skittle for a 22 mile drive today, and when i got home i noticed oil waz slinging all over(not a real lot), i looked everything over and came to the conclusion that it was coming from thre front main bolt, now i rember the o ring got a decent about of use from puting it in and out checking end play, but is it possible for oil to seeep through there.... i plan to pull it out and try get a new o ring inn, and silcone the therds.. now when i remove that bolt do i have to worry about them bearings falling out or can u push the cluthc iin to avoid that or is it just not gonna happen???...pleaese lemme know..

P.s, the skittle not has a total of 34 miles on it and the hot start is great.. and whats funny is a pulled into a convient store and parked next to a first gen today lol.... the guy dident say anything though...

so lemme know what u think... also i wanna try get the car to my dads today which is a 17 mile drive u think it will be ok if that front bbolt leaks a little oil, it not like a huge leak, just a little one????

thanx

Dustin

I say it be fine to drive there. The only thing I wory about pulling the main drive pully on the accy is your timing. Line the timing marks up to the indicater pin and lock the car in gear and bust it free. Watch carefully to enure evrything stays intacked. a 1/4th in will put you far past the deg you get from tuning the CAS.

... have you checked to, say, make sure it's TIGHT? That bolt leaving can cause a world of problems as your engine drains all it's oil out at high pressure.

Buy another copper washer and reinstall the bolt with Locktite. It's possible the old washer is the cause of the leak.

In between the face of the front ecentric shaft bolt is a coppper washer thathelps prevents leaks if you have an air gun big enough to crack it just remove it and toss some locktite on the threads and replace the copper washer.

only listen to marek and hailers on this thread
everyone else is wrong

be sure to have the clutch pedal down...
you can slip a screw driver or near the pushrod to jam it.

and dont leave your car in gear to hold it still to break it free
that is STUPID... great way to drop the needle bearings...

jam a breaker bar in there and just crank it...

I thought he was refering to the seals on the front cover plate. And the barings around the water pump crush ring.

the seal on the front cover plate would STILL require removing the front eccentric bolt. so you are STILL wrong... as usual...

what bearings around the water pump crush ring? the water pump bolts to the front iron, your bearings will not fall when you take off the water pump... and there isnt a crush ring where it mates the water pump to the front iron.... you use a gasket there - or rtv...
