Front cover pulley on correctly?

Front cover pulley on correctly?
Okay,
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am new to this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I was pulling the front cover off of my 88 T II engine, to swap it out. So I was trying to get the pulley in front of the cover off. I could not, So, I took the pulley apart thinking that would help. I removed the 4 bolts on the pulley, and removed the pulley piece that actually holds the belts.
My question is this, how do I make sure that I put this back together in the right place?
The key that is on the eccentric shaft lines up with the pulley so that piece goes on only one way, but does the way that I put the other piece of the pulley on matter?
I have to be able to line up the yellow line on the pulley don't I?

I ran into the same problem when I took my front cover off.
I can't remember, but I think the four holes are offset so that they will only really go on one way.
Regardless, the way that I did it was I rotated the e-shaft until it was lined up at top-dead-center. I found out how to tell when it was at top dead center on another post on this forum (do a search for how to find top dead center... It involves pulling a spark plug, and watching for apex seals to pass). Once I put the e-shaft at TDC, I knew the yellow mark had to be 5 degrees away from the timing mark on the front cover.
Hope this helps,
Eric

that site is informative and also scary, I replaced my front crover without the help of that site and did it fine, use an impact to take off the pully bolt, and didin't drop my needle bearings, my advice to you just put it together how it lines up.........

I read the FAQ at Mazdatrix. I just ordered the Flywheel wrench from them, so that I could use it for leverage to get off the damn pulley. Luckily, it worked.
When I told the guy at Mazdatrix what I had done, he also told me to be very careful, but then said not to worry about it because the pulley can only go on one way on the 88 TII motor. Problem is that I bought this engine used, so I dont even know if it is the stock pulley, or an aftermarket unit that will go on anyway I put it on. I had no problem reattaching the pulley to the main part. So, either I got lucky with my selection, or ?
The pulley itself has been marked in three places One stripe is yellow, one red, and one hacked in with no color. I guess this doesnot matter, as long as I can figure out which way to put the pulley on in relation to the eccentric shaft key right?

Okay,
Disaster has been averted. I went out and pulled the pulley apart again. Indeed, the four bolt holes will only line up in 1 of the 4 positions.
Thanks for pointing me to the Mazdatrix FAQ. I went back and read it again. Looks like I have the issue with O ring and gasket set up that they mention.
THANKS!!!!!
