Front cover and flywheel

I have been told to swap the "front cover" from my S4 N/A to my S5 TII. I may a have a small idea but I am just wondering... what is the "front cover"? Information/pictures would be helpful.

Another thing... the S5 TII tranny looks bulky and I don't know if it will fit in my S4 car. Don't I just keep the S5 flywheel on and then attatch the S4 tranny?

It's probably the cover at the front of the engine. Man, that was too easy. Couldn't pass that one up.

A series five turbo transmission will fit just fine in a series four car. As long as you have the series five transmission mount to go along with it.

Believe it or not, not every one knows what your doing. Swapping a series five into a series four n/a is what it sounds like, until you start talking keeping/not keeping (implied) flywheels. You don't want a series four n/a transmission coupled to a turbo engine in my humble opinion.

who told you this? why do they want you to do this? seems pretty stupid to go to an n/a front cover if its a turbo engine. maybe if you tell us what you're trying to do we can help you do it right?

also, there are major differences between n/a and TII trannies, but an S4 and S5 tranny will be mostly indentical as long as they are both n/a or both TII.

If you are swapping an s5 turbo engine into an s4 NA car, then you probably need to swap to an s5 TURBO front cover. I don't know what differences they have, but you should at the very least use a turbo oil pump, but that may require the whole turbo front cover, I dunno.
Also, the flywheel needs to match the transmission AND the engine rotating assembly. So that means if you have the s5 engine, and an NA tranny, and are using the stock flywheel, then you would need an s5 non-turbo flywheel. If you already have the tranny, then its best to use the turbo tranny. It will fit in an 2nd gen rx-7, but you either need the turbo rear end and driveshaft, or a custom driveshaft to keep the NA rear end.

If you bought a series five turbo engine, then it makes sense to put the series four cover on the series five so the OMP will work.

If that's the case, then put the series five engine in with the series four front cover (has the OMP on it). The use the series four ECU and the N/A EM harness on the motor.

You'd have a problem though with the OMP not having a operating rod from the OMP to the throttle body.

Can't use the series five ECU in a series four car because the ECU plugs won't match b/t car and the unit.

Umm, thanks for all of the input. Sorry I wasn't so specific about everything I guess. What should I do then about not having an oil return line?

Oh, I do have the S5 TII tranny also. Thanks for letting me know that I CAN use it.

I kinda forgot about the oil return from the turbo needing a place to go (front cover).
