ROFL!!!!!

i thought you were joking, then the i owned a retired one comes up. i really hope youre joking.

ive read so much crap about this. all you have is a beat up t2 motor. its stock. it had a million miles put on it by a cop, then it either sat for 10 years or was used even more. good luck with it.
also note. police interceptors are STOCK CROWN VICS they have a 0-60 of approximatly 8 seconds. its slower than a honda civic. the only suspension changes are to allow for the extra 700 lbs or something of cop equipment and the occasional offroad stint.
but remember. theres not a car on earth that can outrun the old motorola. its the same weak *** ford v8, and its still a crown vic. however rumor has it that the dodge magnum will be replacing the crown vic soon.. so thats a bummer.

edit: comparable to nascar!!! roffle. those arent 500lb springs on a vic bro.

but on topic. i would love to own a rx7 cop car. how friggin awesome would that be.

gravedigger!

Even if a cop car had "tuned" suspension, they still use crappy all season tires. Most of the cop cars I see here in So. Cal. use Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires. These tires are good for cab drivers but for chasing people in "teh twistiezZ", they suck ***. I needed rear tires on the FD ASAP and got a used pair of these dirt cheap. I can honestly say, these tires were the scariest tires I've ever had on any generation RX-7. I replaced them on the second day I had them.

moral of the story: This thread is over a year old and cop cars use shitty tires.

hey andrew, just an interesting story involving an FHP camaro, i had hopped on the interstate for a 14 mile or so stretch home late at night. there was almost no one on the road so i brought it up to roughly 130, just a comfy crusing speed and headed home. all was well untill i passed a car about 4 miles from my exit, in the second or two after i passed i realized it had a two tone cream and black(FHP colors) paint job with Florida Highway Patrol written on the back and it came to me, i just passed an FHP camaro doing 60 mph over the limit. i figgured he might want to talk to me about it, but i wasn't all that interested in what he had to say, i didn't even look back to see if he flipped on his lights i just went WOT and brought it up to 170 or 175. i was at my exit in under a minute and a half, i got the hell off and dissapeared. anyway, just goes to show ya ya can **** with them, just make sure you can also out run them and you are only putting yourself in danger doing so(mind you i do not advocate ******* with cops)

175? do you drive an FD? if you had stock windshield wipers they would have flown right off your windshield by then...you need some good aftermarket high speed ones cuz the stock ones rattle at aroufn 110-115

nice storry, but if you can top out 175 (im assuming you have a modded FD??) then you are definetly faster than the camaros. i heard a similar story from a guy riding a gsxr-1000 near miami; the difference was that they tracked him with a helicopter and set up a road block, but maybe he was just BSing.

besides, i wouldnt want to be at 8200 in 4th (to get to my top speed of about 140) for very long. so i image they could catch me if they wanted to give chase.

Talking Police cars

In my understanding, police cars usually have beefed up engines after they buy them. I am 90% sure that american cops detune, and swap the engine out because my friends dad is a lieutenant and he has a interceptor( I beleive thats what they call it) engine in his taurus.

So I don't know about japan, they might tune them up so that they can be better, but Japan is a totally different country and who knows what type of high speed if they have high speed chases. Im sure if they did have high speed chases those would have to be beefed up quite a bit so hopefully in your situation they didn't detune the car and you have a buttload of HP. I agree with the post before about the mileage tho, it's definetly way up there so be careful.

The 5spd tranny is also a very wonderful choice if you decide to get a different tranny. Auto isn't much fun in my experience. Auto with a turbo wouldn't be much fun because if you get a BOV then whats the point. I want to be able to hear that. Such a soothing sound along with a turbo.
