Usually the cops cars will have upgrade body mods.

Like the mustang ones had a stronger bottom so they could romp curbs and stuff and not ruin the frame.

I still wouldn't buy a cop car engine since they are idled and that means not fully combusted gas starts to make deposits.

how many times do we need to cover that weight doesnt affect top speed. ive heard they top out near 170, lot faster than my car and just about anything stock out there, spare a vet.

who said anything about top speed? the best way to lose anyone in most races is to take as many turns as possible. how often is a highway safe to cruise at 170? if i were to be running from someone, i wouldn't want the expertise of laying my foot on the gas, i'd want the know-how of an auto-x'er.
"i got an early nineties dark blue rx7 heading east down I20 doing around 150. i'm on his tail. calling for backup and a copter."
pfft, one instruction and they already know. guess location also affects your chances. big cities are a lot more dangerous than suburbs.

Yes, I understand this, but it does have a huge impact on the acceleration and handling abilities of the car. My car would have no trouble outrunning one of those Z28 police vehicles...even if my hypothetical top speed is less. Who cares if can do 170 if it take 30 minutes to get there? I was just stating that they are alot slower than a regular Z28.

crown vic's Z28 even the mustangs ... if you have a semi modded TII you should be able to loose one... i can say from experience, or should i say stupidity.. i dusted a 5.0 mustang in Texas.. and lost a State trooper in Michigan.... but was also doing 140 when they took off after me and luck was on my side.. CHILDREN PLEASE DON'T REPEAT THIS ACT, IT IS ILLEAGAL......

Are you referring to Japanese cop car? My question is how much can they possibly drive within the island?

Their lifestyle is completely different from ours and within prefecture (like county) it has its own police department.

Personally I don't even think they thrash it. Them cops have too much dignity to do something stupid. Besides, they may have to perform harakiri if they break their designated police car.

I'm not too sure about tranny, but, why would they get some POS tranny for something should be reliable to do serious car chase (just in case) or something

Not trying to bash you in any way, but unless you have a fairly heavily modded TII, you won't lose an LS1 even in the twisties. They are very fast in stock form.

I've ridden in a police car. Not where I should have been, though.

They're extremely silent, fast, ride well but turn well for their size and weight. They'll take a beating all day and come back for more.

I was referring to the Z28 police car..just trying to make a point that they are way slower than even a factory civilian LS1. I think some magazine did a comparo of a bunch of different police spec cars a while back. While the Z28 was the fastest, it still was pretty slow. I think they did a 1/4 in around 14.8. Even my N/A would give that a run for its money....

i think all japanese spec fc's had back seats, which aren't very comfortable (trust me, i know).

but then again i guess that would be a good torture method for a major felony or something.

Whats the plastic on the hood for? Is it bullet proof in case they get into a shootout?

I believe the plastic has to do with airflow dynamics over the lights they add on top of the car. At least, that's what I read somewhere, it sounded like a good story...

That actually makes alot of sense.. thanks for the answer. That plastic shield would probably cut down on most of the wind noise caused by adding the lights. But on the other hand, why would they care about wind noise on a police car?

Wind noise would be a sign of turbulence, a sign of extra parasitic drag.
