fresh rebuild.. when will it idle?
i just got an atkins reman (s5TII) reman and got everything installed in the car. we got everything all ready to go so i got it started after about 2 hours of trying. after getting it started i had to keep the rpms around 2000 or so to keep it running and if they got below 1500 or so the car would die. the first time i had it running i ran it for 2-3 minutes then i let the rpms get too low so it died. the second time i had it running for about 5 minutes and it still would die if i got the rpms anywhere around 1000rpms.
my question is how long do i have to have it running before it will idle under 1500rpms?

OK, let it idle at 2K...Kevin at Rotary Resurrection likes to run the housings dry (no OMP or premix) to break 'em in faster, you can do that if ya want...

well it is dependant on the housings.
My rebuild had pretty good housings.
Mine will idle at about 900 if I tune it down and slowly lower it from like 1500. Mine got to here after about an hours of idling.
Check for Vac leaks!
I forgot to put the PCV one way check valve back in the TID after removing my turbo and it wouldn't idle under 1100rpm.
Once under 1k rpm you can verify timing.
Just let it sit and idle as long as you can until you can tweak the idle down.

we had it cranking at 500rpms and i checked the timing and it was right on the mark.
wow running the housings dry sounds like a bad idea... we need to get landers in here for his input. i read over his startup page a few times but it didnt get too descriptive

He refered to it on a thread a couple of weeks back, tripped me out too, but he said it works...I wouldn't do it, especially with my new housings, but that's just me...

it should idle less than 1k
I just put a rebuild in and didn't run premix for the fist tank or so.
the rebuild idles about 650 with 1500 miles on it (set it that low b/c sounds mean )
i used RA seals.

when I had my engine rebuilt, it was an NA but we couldn't get it to start much less idle but I decided on day that it would idle and so I sat out there for about 20 mins revving it up and slowly letting the rpms drop in 100/200 rpm increments towards a 1000rpms and it would try and stall for 20 mins until I don't know if it just freed up enough or if the computer finally caught on but after a real long time of doing that eventually it idled around there...I dunno, just my story...you just have to decide it WILL idle and make sure you talk to her while your doing it! that always helps!
