fresh rebuild. first oil change

ok so i went to change the oil on my engine that i rebuilt, all new seals new bearings low mileage rotor housings...

the oils appears to have a lot of metal in it. the oil has a grey color to it.

is this the normal break in or is it something worse.

thanks

How many miles did you put on it before changing it? The first oil change after rebuilding should be at most after 1000 miles, maybe as little as 500. I can't say how much metal would be normal though, but certainly it would be more than on a motor that's already been broken in.

Maybe get some free kits and send in a sample.

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

It's only like 20 bux and they will give a description of what is in the oil and a breakdown of what metals and other chemical levels are in the oil.

if it has new bearings then I wouldn't be surprised that you have a little bit of metal in there.

Go drive it. You need to heat cycle it.

As stated above first oil change shoul be like an hour in. My looked " funny" after just an idle, i then changed it a 500, 1000, 2000, and every 2000 after, it should start clearing up around the third or fourth oil change. As for now your oil, you shouldnt be worried, sounds normal.
