Found my boost problem! :)

Well for anyone who has read my old threads about my boost problems I finally found it!
The nipple on the top of the turbo was WAAAAYYYYYY loose and it just spun around.
So I put some JB weld on it and woooohoooooo I have 10psi!
First gear is still only like 5-6 psi but it spools much faster and 2nd gear actually has some pull now!
I have yet to get it out so that I can really open it up but I am very happy that I found my main problem.

I did notice that in 3rd gear in higher RPM's my boost drops. I dont know why that is happening but I havent search yet.

So I would like to thank Scott89T2 and BlueTII for all of your help and time. It is VERY appreciated.

The engine was rebuilt about 7k ago.
The turbo is a garett T04b hybrid with a ported HT-18 wastegate.

Did they make any changes to the turbine? Also, do you have a boost controller?

Hey this sounds like a problem i may be having. I have checked just about everything but still cant seem to cure my 5-6psi boost problem...I have replaced the intercooler hoses, checked the duty solenoid, checked for proper operation of the wastegate with a pressure gun but still the car wont boost past 5-6psi...I also borrowed a friends N370 ECU...Any advice or help guys.

hmm... that line came off on me once. and I hit 15psi in 1/2 a sec... cause that means the wastegate stays 100% closed.

I guess with it leaking. there was still enough pressure to open the wastegate, while bleeding boost at the same time.

that 90 degree nipple spins around on my turbo as well. I have a boost controller now and I was putting anew vacuum line on that nipple and it just spun around. I take it this is bad then?

Does anyone have pics of this nipple, I have no idea where it is located on the stock turbo? Is it common for this thing to break and then leak boost?

I assume this is the plug he is talking about. Notice in this pic there is no plug on the turbo yet, and this is a T04 housing ... but this Pic should give you a idea of what to look at.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Well, I guess I'll go jbweld that little bitch to stop it from spinning as well.

To the guy who said it was one piece - on the stock turbo, there is a metal 9 degree elbow which connects to a short ~2 inch piece of vacuum hose, which connects to a long round steel pipe which goes around the compressor housing to the bottom where I believe on a stock system it has a vacuum hose on the end which connects to the wastegate actuator (little bronze top hat looking thing).

I have a MBC installed so I connected straight from the steel elbow nipple on the compressor housing to the MBC, then right down to the wastegate actuator.

I have just been told that this 90 degree nipple on the compressor outlet should be able to spin. It should not be leaking. I decided against jbwelding mine tight and ended up finding my intake leak somewhere else anyway. Woohoo... got my vacuum back and my boost. sweet!!!
