Fmic...front bumper support.

To install a big FMIC, I dont see anyway to do so besides removing the big metal front bumper support behind the front bumper.. I didnt even think you could remove that. But its totally big and bulky and gets in the way..
Is there any way to install a bif FMIC without removing this, and without butchering your front bumper?

I just installed the old school Trust FMIC, and it doesnt require you to remove the bumper support or hack your bumper.

u have a picture of your setup. where the pipes go in and out and how you route them and an overall look of it. i was also thinking of possibly installing a fmic without shopping up my front.

hmm ok, it *IS* possible to remove the support though without having the car fall apart right? Just wondering.

Yes but if you get in an accident say goodbye to things in your engine bay, that is there to protect from front end collisions.

Also, why do you need such a big FMIC with your turbo project? Aren't you running low levels of boost? You really don't need anything that huge.

The problem with a huge FMIC like the GReddy for instance, is that air never really reaches most of the surface area anway because it is jammed so far up the bumper, so it becomes useless unless you open up the front of the car...that is what some of us where told by a Rotary Expert here.

I also have a smaller but very efficent Spearco core, with old school rounting. My intake temps are actually lower than my friends V-SPL, and I just have my filter attached to the turbo.

I want a big intercooler so i can have room for expansion without having to upgrade my intercooler... Im going to boost more later when i get a standalone, etc. I just want to start boosting for now. Thanks all for the pics and input. Does anybody have any specific recommendations for intercoolers as far as ebay goes?

heh, ill have to post some pictures. jason is using a HxWxL=18x3x29 intercooler on his 10thae. We ran a S5 front bumper which we hacked to hell. We just removed the black plastic supports, and used a die(dye?) grinder to cut the small pieces of metal off the main support. The intercooler had a thread on the top, so we bolted it to the support with some huge nut, and made custom mounts as well. Pictures will explain it a lot better than I can though....I'll get on it

Did your sparco intercooler come with piping? I need a kit that kits w/o hacking my front bumper. I saw a brand new greddy one w/ piping for $800...but now I'm hearing that it wont fit I need one cuz my stock turbo glows @ 10psi+ and it has 150k on it, so when it breaks im getting a bigger one but the top mount wont cool it well enough =/ any idea on the kits?

I like the huge greddy kit. It is possible to use it and keep the bumper reinforcement, it just needs a bit of modification. Like was said before, you will want to do something to open up the bumper a bit to feed more air to the IC, just so you dont leave a large portion of it without direct airflow.

Nope piping is custom. Looking at J-Rat's, I should have copied the Trust routing, would have left room for a TID, rather than just attatching my filter onto the turbo.

Are you talking about the GReddy V-SPL kit, or the R-Spec? They both fit but take more work with S4's...
