are you sure you don't just take the starter ring off of the old one? taht's the way it was on my eclipse.. i got it off fine, but you have to heat it with a torch and pound the hell out of it to get it back on, i couldn't do it, my mechanic did it in a few minutes, tho...

I find this a disturbing trend.
Maybe the folks down under hand a different definition on what exactly a replacement "flywheel" is considered?&nbsp I would at least expect some explicit instructions to warn the potential buyers that the ring gear needs to be swapped.&nbsp I don't think this is stated on the website, and I'm sure hIGGI wasn't warned either in any of the email replies.&nbsp This would explain the cheap price on the unit.&nbsp Ring gear swaps are not exactly what I would recommend for most backyard mechanics.&nbsp This really requires an acetylene torch to heat quickly; I dunno about you, but I don't have a acetylene torch outfit sitting in my garage...

I think that is the way they come there... but when you can get a light flywheel for about $150 US SHIPPED, that's a good deal even having to swap the ring gear.

take it to a machine shop and have them install it
also I would consider putting new ring gear on....
if you old one is worn at all ...

I carried a similar project to a local machine shop
and they only charged me 20.00....

a) no machine shop here (which will have experience with it)

b) shipping/customs were more than flywheel itself.....

Just crawl under the car and unbolt the transmission and crank it with a screwdriver every time you want to start it

It's easy to get the teeth off of the stock flywheel, just throw a puller on it, and yank the teeth off ( I did that by accident when I was trying to remove my flywheel for my rebuild ).

now... installing it would be an issure for you... Maybe go buy some leather gloves, throw the ring in an oven, get something to put on the floor. Bake the ring, once it's nice and toasty, take it out, throw it on the flywheel, and drag that outside to cool down??

I don't need to worry about it... I happen to have an acetylene torch outfit sitting in my garage...

( Yes, I really do )

oh.. come on you WIMP!!! just park it on a hill every night, then you don't even need a push to get it started, just roll down the hill and pop it into gear.

Heck, you can get rid of your starter then too.. light weight!!

Put the flywheel in the freezer, the ring gear in the oven, and go at it!
