Flywheel Question

What size nut holds the flywheel on? While I have the trani droped I would like to resurface it. And do I have to remove the flywheel to replace the pilot bearing? It doesn't look like I have to but I just want to make sure.

You can use either a 2 1/8" or a 54mm socket on the nut. You don't have to remove the flywheel to replace the pilot bearing.

Cool thanks. Is it a good idea to resurface the flywheel?

I think it's generally good to resurface the flywheel to prevent pre-mature clutch wear, and prevent chatter. But, it depends on the flywheel's condition.

If you have a dial indicator, the FSM gives specs for when the flywheel needs to be resurfaced.

I don't actually have the fsm or a dial indicator. Is there another way to figure out if I need to? What do I need to look for?

You can download the FSM. There are links in the FAQ sticky. You can also get a decent dial caliper for 11 or 12 bucks at Big Lots, and I'm sure they have them cheap at Harbour Freight if you have either of those nearby.

I don't have one of those near by. Is it absolutly nessary to resurface the flywheel when changing the clutch. If its not then im contimplating not doing it.

I think the best way to be sure is to get a dial indicator (ebay is your friend), because it's important to check for runout/warpage. Failing that, the only thing I know to do is examine your flywheel for crazing and scoring, and to consider your past clutch performance.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary, based on what I said in my earlier post. It's just good insurance.
