flooding problems

Just recently my car has been flooding a lot. It happens when I let the car warm up too. What could the problem be. I don't think it is a loss of compression because I haven't noticed any performance losses, but I may be wrong, maybe leaking injectors. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you are referring to flooding on startup, if it only does it on a warm engine than it is most likely compression. However, if it is doing it when the engine is both cold and warm, I would suspect leaking injectors. If you have a fuel pressure guage, check for leakdown of the fuel pressure after turning off the engine. If the check valve is ok in the fuel pump (it is 90+ % of the time), the pressure should hold if the injectors are ok. Also, on rotaries, the leading ignition must be in top condition at all times. Weak spark will cause flooding also. Make sure your wires are ok, if you have more than 10K on the plugs, replace them, otherwise check them and replace if they are worn.

I have a flooding problem too. It doesn't seem to be related to engine temperature because it happens on either warm or cold startups. When it won't start, I do the clear flood procedure, where you pull the fuse and turn it over a bit, after replacing the fuse it starts with a bit of smoke.

Thanks Irv for the fuel injector leak down suggestion.

I am also wondering if this could be an electrical problem in my case. I have noticed that sometimes after shutdown, I lock the door and the factory alarm beeps, and other times it doesn't. Also once after a difficult start I heard a beeping from somewhere. I shut it off, cranked it up again and the beeping started, then I cut it off and started it again and the beeping was gone. I am wondering if I have bad connection somewhere, maybe in the ignition switch, that sometimes disables the spark resulting in flooding.

Whaddaya think?

Suggestions?

noboost, I have the same problem. It's not related to engine temp. Well, atleast its not compression. I'm gonna get some new wires and plugs, hopefully that will help, I need them anyways. I might as well do the ATF trick while I'm replacing the plugs.

noboost, if you have a bad connection in the ignition switch, you would lose, in addition to the fuel pump, both leading and trailing ignitions, and the ECU (the IG1 curcuit). If you lose these, your tach (off of the trailing ignition) would instantly go to 0. If the tach is steady when cranking, so is your spark. Have fun!

momar, I recently did a compression check and I had about 75psi in both rotors, and even bumps. I didn't think that was too bad for almost 160,000 miles. I also have new plugs and wires and that didn't seem to help the problem.

Irv, Thanks for the tip on keeping an eye on the tach. I will do that.

Something weird is going on with my car, now not only do I sometimes not get a beep out of the alarm, but I also do not have any interior lights when I open the door. I haven't looked into this problem yet, could be something as simple as a bulb, switch, or fuse.
