Flooding and lack of charge revisited
Well oddly enough, these two problems seemed to coincide. It began today on the way to work and I filled up.
Upon trying to start up, the car was flooded. Well its been doing this for a while but I found it odd cause full throttle starts usually keep it from happening. So I pull the fuse and crank................low battery wtf.
I try again and it works. So I go to work, go to get some food. Come back to the car, it wont start cause its flooded and batteries nearly dead. So I get another car and we jump start mine up, starts up. BUT the voltmeters reading very low, about 1/4 of the way up with my lights very dim until I rev it to about 1k in which powers back to normal.
So I take it for a drive hoping to build up some charge in the battery and now the voltmeter reading is normal at about halfway after 20 mins or so. But then it drops to a quarter of the way down again when im within 1 mile of my home. wtf.
I get home, turn it off. Try to turn it on again in hopes that the battery charged. Keys in, throttle depressed, turn to on and crank.......................flooded
and from the sounds of it low battery.
Sorry for such a lengthy right up but its a really odd problem and I have no idea as to why its doing this. I have no BAC or any type of emissions but I also have no accesories at all. I also have a UD pulley for the alt but its been on for almost 2 weeks now with no problems or drops in charge.
This week really isnt the best week for this to happen so im gonna get new plugs, have the battery checked and replaced if need be but I dont know whats causing the crap reading from the voltmeter. If its the alternator, I do have an extra one so what do you guys suggest. Thanks.

It could be corroded connectors which could be the reason why the voltage jumps to normal then back down. I'd check and clean the battery terminals and check the 12V alternator connector. It could be as simple as a loose connector. If your battery is not holding charge, your car will flood since it isn't turning over fast enough.
Bad starter will do this as well but that's not in your case.
Check the voltage at the battery when it's running with lights on. It should read at least 12-14V. Check the voltage at the alternator.

I had a similar problem years ago. Diode blew in the alternator which some how screwed the battery. With the screwed up system the car would crank but frequently flood. Basically if it didn't start right up it was going to flood. New alternator battery. Everything was fine again.
Keep in mind that flooding is direclty related to compression, which is directly related to cranking speed. IF you have a weak battery, alternator, starter, or even wiring connections, it can cause your car to flood by not allowing it to build compression quickly enough. IF you check out the FSM specs for compression tests, it gives corrections for lower or higher cranking speed, this is because it is very important to building compression in a rotary.
Everybody loves to talk about flooding being caused by fuel injectors, but nobody ever mentions low compression or slow cranking speed as being possible culprits.

if you car is flooding when you try to start it put the gas pedal all the way to the floor it should start then once it does let of the gas but not all the way just enough to keep it idlaing
my rx7 does hte same thing the voltemetr is low and the cars seems to be flooded. somtimes when i try to turn it over it doesnt do anything like there not even a battery int he car & once it starts it smokes and the voltage seems to be normal.
