Flaming With The RB Turbo-back

Is it possible for the rx-7 to flame with the racingbeat turbo back if it has the presilencer that the rb tback comes with? Coming home on the highway the other night, before disaster happened (overheat = coolant seal gone) I would hear popping noises and see some light behind me when I decelerated without upshifting. Also when I shifted at higher revs while at wot (no powershifting) I would hear a big pop and see a big light in my rear, is this normal even with the rb tback? I also have an hks fcon that the previous owner installed and i think might be running a little rich.

Any time u take the cats of a 7, it will shoot flames. Mine did it w/ the stock exhaust and the rx7.com race pipe. Now I have my Apexi N1 and the flames are huge and extremely loud.

well, mine is quiet, it still has the presilencer that comes with the exhaust system, as shown here:

In my experience yes you can throw flames with the RB turbo back with the presilencer still up in there. Especially since the situation you are describing is exactly when the flames usually happen.

well then there you go, im not complaining but at wot at high rpms it the car stutters a bit, could it be fuel cut or just bad tuning (haven't taken to dyno yet, neither has previous owner)

Is it the dreaded 3800 rpm hesitation you are referring to or are we talking higher rpms than that?

Did you look at your presilencer when you got it? It's straight-through. Just like a straight pipe as far as flames are concerned.

higher rpms, like close (not too close) to redline, at wot only though, if i go up slowlyit won't do it, whick leads me to believe it might be a little boggy from running a bit too rich?

What other mods do you have? You upgraded the injectors and fuel pump right?

Actually, I haven't done anything to the car, the exhaust, TID boost and egt gauges were put in by the previous owner, as was the FCON. I think its just plugged i with the hks standard settings.

yup! it'll flame aight!

i did about 150mph on the highway once. early morning, so it was empty. so when i shifted, 4th to 5th my pops (crusin behind me) in his 3rd gen said i shot two badass flames out each pipe. about 2-3 feet, very clear and visible (it was day light). and yes, i was runnin the presilencer (rb turbo back system).

that day is when i experienced the speed sensitive steering. at 150mph the steering wheel is super tight. at 1st i was like wtf! but then i realised what was happening.
