Flame suit on.

Just trying to get some ideas on cost here... I think the motor in my seven took a **** for the second time... It locks the starter when you hit it.. Some small oil spots on the ground... I pulled the plugs to see if it was somehow hydro locked since i have been having problems with injectors hanging open... But that wasnt it.. So my question is would it be cheaper for me to put a rotary back in it or to go ahead and just put the LS1 i have in the garage in? The LS1 is complete with tranny and harness so none of that is an issue.. Just looking for some advice here not random people questioning my intelligents because i want to try this out... If its not constructive please dont waste either of our times on replying...

Thanks guys.(and gals)

First do a compression test, then come back to us with the results.

You want cheaper? buy a geo metro and fix the FC with the engine thats supposed to be in it.

Compression check... Please re read my post... The motor WILL NOT TURN OVER... wont even think about it.. You hit the key and the starter tries to turn in and thats it...

how long has it been sitting?

if it has been sitting for a long time, then its probably carbon locked. If it hasn't been sitting for a long time then it should crank even if it doesn't fire up....

Try turning it using a ratchet first. Could just be a starter-type-issue

Sounds like you spat an apex seal and it's lodged in the exhaust port. I've had that happen a time or two

Drop the small block in it. You will be VERY happy with the results. I know I am

ya, i have my money on ether a carbon lock or a rolled apex seal, if it is a seal count your housings bad, if it is carbon lock, there is still a chance the housings are pitted and bad. have a good day

Yank that engine and never look back. It's way more fun over on the dark side:

Heh, yeah, only if you wanna get fucked. I've known lots of people unhappy with his business practices, including myself. He STILL owes me the title to my FD after...get this...18 MONTHS.

Yes, legal action is in the works, but it takes time.

That's odd. I guess the only way to really be sure you don't get ripped off is to do the work yourself. Chris Vetters made his own mounts and brackets for his 302->RX7 conversion and they worked, fitted, and held up fine. People have trouble with Granny's, too, so it seems like there's very few people you can trust when it comes to conversions.

Wow, really cool post. If you want to start a retarded flame war that never ends, keep posting useless subjective opinionated information like that because it'll just end up with this thread getting locked. On top of that you're not going to change anyone's opinion, so unless you're into getting carpel-tunnel syndrome over an internet squabble about something as trivial as the engine of a car, I'd advise you to stop making these kind of useless post-***** comments.

Agreed. Plus the guy has a blown motor and a working LS1 at hand. Not like he's taking a mint 7 with a perfectly running engine and sticking a B16 into it. and even if he wanted to do that it's still his choice. Still a V8 in an RX-7 makes Baby Jesus cry , maybe since it's an LS1 though he'll stop crying once you Light up the slicks

Yeah and stupid quotes like this make me want to buy all the RX7's i can find and motor swap them... If you dont want someone to do a V8 conversion you know how to stop them? Buy the damn car or STFU... LT-1's are good motor.. A pain in the *** but really good motors.. They also love boost....
