Fixed the idle garbage!!!
WOOOO FACKING HOOO!
Well today i got fed up. After starting the car up in the parking lot when hot, and almost shitting my pants, i figured enough is enough. Today i will fix the goddamn idle.
So i go home, armed with a 10mm, 12mm, philips, garden hose, WD40 and a large sledge for when things don't go my way.
Checked tps AGAIN -- perfect.
Start pulling all hoses off and inspecting them... perfect (except for the hose on the acv sticking straight up, its dried out and loose, not a good seal)
started checking TB plates and springs... seem good... secondary plates a lil sticky... wd40'd the actuator arm... much better.
So nothing so far has gone right. Until i start inspecting the tb and doing some logical thinking. Noticed a screw towards the back of the TB (with a spring on it)... points straight up, sitting on a cam (not sure which one, perhaps fast idle?). I decided to unscrew it a tad... what do you know... tps light goes out. So i adjust the tps a bit... back the other screw a bit more... adjust the tps again. Put everything back together....
OOOH LA-LA!!! MUCH better!!!! Better throttle response!!! Doesnt stumble like a drunken mule for the first 30 seconds... MUCH MUCH better. Took it for a rip.. MUCH better throttle response. Got the car really nice and hot... shut it off, started it again, idle goes up to 1200, and then back down to 750 PERFECTLY.
Moral of the story? I don't know what the **** that screw is, and i don't really care... but that peice of **** caused me hours and hours of diagnosing, and vacuum leak testing, when it was as simple as a misadjustment.
Now it's not completely perfect... it still SLIGHTLY and barely noticeably misfires upon decelleration... leading me to believe its still running a bit rich... but that's for next time, boys and girls!!! In the meantime, i'm goin to enjoy my sweetly purring kitten.
Thanks to everyone for their help, and if you're experiencing the same issue, go out and start facking around with your TB

Its right beside the dashpot on my 89 TII. You have an 86 GXL, so i wouldnt be surprised if that screw doesnt exist at all.
Either way, issue #3 is resolved. i just need to adjust it some more.
Does anyone have a good way of adjusting that screw? any factory specs that I have to follow? Car runs much better and revs much smoother now... but theres alot of room for improvement.

Yes, the online fsm is available at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com download the FUEL section. Explicit instructions are there to adjust the fast idle screw, fast idle cam screw etc.
