fitting s5 waterpump housing using 12a frontcover

fitting s5 waterpump housing using 12a frontcover
I'm swapping an s5 n/a engine into my FB, so I have to use the 12a front cover because of the way teh engine mounts in an FB.
Anyway, I got my s5 waterpump and housing today, and there is a little bump at the bottom of the pump and housing that prevents me from getting the housing all the way on the motor.
Would it be safe to grind it off? there doesnt look like there is much room to play with on the front cover, so I really dont want to have to grind on that.
What would be the best way to modify the housing and pump to put properly on my motor?
