First rotary rebuild.

Well I tore my parts engine down today. THe whole thing was packed w/ rust. At least it wasnt seized like I thought it was. Sobbs. The housings seem to be in good shape, but I'm going to rebuild w/ T2 housings, (I have an N/A)for porting reasons. Do I need the end and center housngs to match the rotor housings? Also I'm keeping it N/A for now, so I can use my current rotors, correct? And how should I go about getting all the stuck seals, and keepers out? I'm thinking of lightly sanding off the rust, then picking them out like usual. I'm going to throw a NO2 kit on her in the next month or two so should I have my friend order me 2 millimeter apex seals or larger, and 2pc. 3pc. etc?

you have a long task ahead of you.

Removing rust from rotors is HARD.

so many tiny crevices.

All i can tell you is that rust PITS surcfaces.
Removes METAL.

You can use naval jelly and/or a wire (brass) brush to remove the rust, and use the ols seals to gouge out the crevices.

remember, all the crevices and seal surfaces have to have NO POINTS where you can catch in.

must be SMOOOOOOOTH. all movign surfaces.

and DO NOT BUMP THE ROTOR TIPS ON ANYTHING.
they bend so easilly and do not ever really go back into "round" for the corner seals to fit.

Um NO all cleaning of the engine should be done by hand if it is done with any sort of power tools you run the chance of wearing a groove that will make the wear of the seals un-even and cause premature engine failure. Check to see if the side housings are with in tolerance if so then you might be able to lap the housings but most of the time the rust is below the Mazda recommended Tolerance and you will have to replace the housing. And make sure when you are swapping parts you take into consideration there were motor differences between the S4 and the S5. Have fun.

I used my dads 2 and 1/8th socket on an impact. If anyone in the Aurora IL area, let me know, I can take care of you.
