No one enforces that. You could break that by talking in a normal voice on a calm day. I'm running a RB Road Race header>single baffle mufflers>glass packs, definatley not quiet, and they've never bothered me.

I know people that has run open header by cops in TN on rotarys and v8s... cops never cared. *shrug* good luck with the ticket though.

Yes, it's a beautiful sound. Halfway between a Harley and an older Ferrari. Only exaust setup I've heard that makes an FC sound like it's got *****.

There are too many variables with that law.
I mean its going to be louder if there are buildings along the road since sound waves will bounse off them, and its going to be quieter in an open field....

Same in kentucky, or at least louisville, I got a ticket for listening to my music too loud before.

well actually, you could just install two resinators.. Its what i did, and it help a bit.. Two large barrels should muffle the sound. Dont know about the back pressure though..
Hmm, there not section around the manifold, so it shouldnt affect performance. That way you hold on to ya exhuast!! And there actually cheap {$30 a pop}. Youll have to cut out a section of your exhuast and have them welded....

In Rhode Island, the law is as follows:

Noise Limits for Motor Vehicles

For the purposes of this section, "dbA" means decibels measured with a calibrated sound level meter weighted to the "A" scale.

(b) In speed zones of thirty-five miles per hour (35 mph) or less, not more than eighty-six (86) dbA. In speed zones of more than thirty-five miles per hour (35 mph), not more than ninety (90) dbA.
So in RI the cops need to measure you with a calibrated sound level meter at 50 feet. In other words, check your local laws.

The best I could get from the California code is:

"(c) Test procedures for compliance with this article shall be
established by the Department of the California Highway Patrol,
taking into consideration the test procedures of the Society of
Automotive Engineers."

It lacks a good reference for where to find said test procedures.

You can always do what I do. Buy the silencer insert and put it on the floor or behin dyour passenger seat.

When the cops says your too loud say "The insert bolts came out and the thing flew out and I'm going home so I can put new ones in"

Luckily most cops have been really cool with me and don't care.
