Angry First "loud exhuast ticket" lastnight

For those of you who didnt see my thread about my new exhuast. I have the bonez superflo and corksport catback. Anyways, when I was driving around lastnight minding my own buisness. I see a cop car infront of me(i didnt really think anything of it) he puts his left blinker on like he is going to make a turn, but he was really waiting for me to pass him so he could see what was making all of the noise. Once i passed him(he saw the the big shinny can) he turned off his blinker came back into my lane and pulled me over . This is how the conversation went.

Me: is there a problem officer
Him: well yes there is your exhuast is way too loud, do you even have any cats?
Me: yes sir i have two, a main cat and a precat
Him: uh, well rev it up for me
Me: ok
Him: yes yes that is way too loud, you are way over the limit
Me: ok sir i will try to get it fixed as soon as i can( thinking i would just get a warning)
Him: well here is your ticket for loud exhuast.

and that was it all it says on the ticket is "loud exhaust"

O well i guess I have to find a way to tone it down a bit, anybody have any ideas?

yeah, use neutral around cops. other than that, try looking in summit racing for these exhaust inserts. They look like a mesh cone. They're meant to go in headers, but will work in this case. Don't know how much they really reduce the noise, but it might be worth a shot.

O 16581 72452 5- I have been thinking about that, but i have a few questions. If I did buy the presilencer would i have a shop cut out a section of the exhuast and have them weld the presilencer up?

Well, do you have a header? if you don't order one from racing beat and get a pre-silencer, i'm not sure about second gens but with first gens the header takes out the first two cats and with a presilencer bolts right up to the main cat.

go find a cop on the street some where and tell him that you just fixed it (which you really didnt) and have him sign it off for you...works like a charm

Or do like he said, i don't think a header with a pre-silencer would make it louder, but don't take my word for it i don't know what a presilencer will do, i don't even see how a cop heard your car, i had gutted cats and a cat-back with a straight thru muffler and mine was relatively quiet, now i've got a header and a straight pipe into that muffler with the exhaust leaking until i can get it welded, cops don't say anything to me about it... would have been funny if a harley would have passed you while you were pulled over.

A header with a presilencer will be much louder than your system now. You said you have 2 cats?? If so, then that isnt the superflow system. The superflow only has 1 cat, with a presilencer. The double cat system has 2 cats. I dont think a cop can give you a ticket just because he "thinks" its too loud. I thought they needed to have a decibal meter or something?? Anyway, just be careful until you can get the silencer, Im sure you should be fine with that. My car now is much louder than yours...

Rxmfn: I thought that on the superflo system the presilencer infront of the cat was a precat? I guess not. I also thought they needed to have a decibal reading but i guess not. I've have another question for you, you heard the clips that i sent you, do you think that it is louder than it should be? i mean when i am driving it doesnt seem to be loud in the car but outside the exhuast like seems to echo of things and it is ten times louder. I like it, but it has been pissing off a few people

No, from what Ive heard on the clips it doesnt seem to loud at all. Like I said, my system now (RB header/Bonez high-flow cat/pacesetter) seems to be alot louder than that. I am getting the CS soon, as soon as they are available again. How much was the ticket, is it even worth fighting?? Try looking up your local laws to see how they are to determine if your exhaust is over the limit.

o ok, I've got just one more question for you. I have heard some rumors that corksport might be coming out with a dual version of their catback. Do you think the dual version would be any quiter than the singal?

Probably, but it will also probably be over $500, which I personally dont want to pay for a cat-back. Plus the single is lighter

LOL I've gottem 3 already, got around 2 of them by going to a muffler shop and paid them some money to say they did a coupla welds in my exhaust and fixed the problem.....took it into the judge and he dismissed both of them....the last one was one of like 8 tickets I got

yeah I put my presilencer on and no troubles yet with it on, get the recipt and bring it to court!!!! also I have not driven down the strip on the weekend either, I just stay home and get wasted

I thought they needed to have a decibal meter or something??
They do have to have one and they can only judge the noise by the level at idle..........you got fucked. I would make sure that I went to court on that one.

I was pissed about the whole decible thing too but then i looked at the laws for it and here they are this is what i got wrote up for:

169.69 Muffler.

Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a
muffler in good working order which blends the exhaust noise
into the overall vehicle noise and is in constant operation to
prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a
muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle
on a street or highway. The exhaust system shall not emit or
produce a sharp popping or crackling sound. Every motor vehicle
shall at all times be equipped with such parts and equipment so
arranged and kept in such state of repair as to prevent carbon
monoxide gas from entering the interior of the vehicle.

here's what you need to do, and I'm not just joking around when i say this. find the cop and shove the ticket back in his face and tell him that unless he pulls out a sound decibal reader and actually checks your exhasut he can't give you a ticket. if this was a city cop then the odds of him having one are really rare. I don't know what the law is your city but cops can't give tickets just on there opion, which this ticket was obvisouly his opion. if you don't have the time to find the cop, then just take it to court and tell the judge that you do have stock exhaust, it's just a rotory engine and thats how they sound. it's not like the judge is going to know the difference.
I know this works because I've been pulled over many times for my exhaust but haven't got a ticket yet because I just tell them to check it with a decibal reader and they never have one so they can't give me a ticket, then I rev my exhaust really loud and drive away. cops hate when I do that
