damn straight its bullshit, he just said "rev it up" then he said" thats way over the limit" gave me the ticket and took off. I am going to fight this one, im not going to let him get aways with that, But in the ticket that he wrote me up for 169.69 it doesnt say anything about having to have a decible reading it basically says it is leaving it up to the officer for him to decide so i dunno

ok dude... just take the ticket to court... contest it... there are 2 ways to do it.. go to the library and look up the rcw or rcm (in my state its the revised code of washington) and see what it says about mufflers.... its like half a page and explains that they cant ticket you on judgement.... bring that point to the judge... than the second point.. he didnt put a price on the ticket??? are you sure he just didnt mean it to be a writian warning? if they dont fill in the price than the ticket is not official.. its like if the cop doesnt sign it..... did he not fill anything else out?

I may be wrong, but I thought all tickets had a price written on them, along with instructions on how to mail in payment. If there is no price, than its just a written warning. (Ive never gotten a ticket, this is just what Ive heard..) Anyone else know about this....

well I guess he forgot to write the pirce on it or something because he went back into his car came out and said "here is your ticket for the exhuast". Then when i looked at it at home there was no price on it. He also wrote what i violated on the ticket, statue#169.69

Thats BS. I've had 1 ticket so far, and about a dozen warnings... one with my old system(stock to custom cat back. And lots of warnings with my RB header, no presilencer, and N1 dual catback...its loud as ****, yet no tickets..you gotta be careful around the pigs, don't let em know what you got. And if a cop told me to "rev it up" I'd say **** you. What did you revv too??? Damn, just blip the throttle..thats not THAT loud...
And I don't know about MI, but in MO, they don't put the price on the ticket...you have to find that out yourself. They last "exesive noise" violation I had, was 75 bucks, first offense.

You live in bloomington.... Thats whats wrong with your exhaust. Bloomington cops are ******** and will rape you of everything you're worth, for any reason they deem capable of getting you to pay out.

Be very careful about what you stick in your exhaust. I've gone through 2 mufflers located behind my header. One mild steel and one stainless... Those little mesh inserts might last long enough to get the cop to reverse the ticket but I'm 99.999% positive it will melt off and get launched out the back or clog one of those new cats...

Get a silencer from CS for the 30 bucks or whatever they're charging and you should be fine. Or, Move!

LoL yeh the bloomington cops are not the best, but this one wasnt a bloomington cop even worse it was a highway patrol. when he asked me to rev it, i was like **** so i just barely even tapped the throttle(revved to about 2k), but he acted like i revved it to 6k and freaked out" o yeh yeh thats way too loud"

Jimmy325i- are you ever in bloomington? if you are maybe we could find a place to meet and you could really hear how the exhaust sounds.

I was in St Paul on University friday night. My Edelbrock muffler has taken a **** on me, so I wasn't there very long. (fearing yet another noise ticket myself)

Lots of pork fried rice out down there these days. (cops pulling over ricers)

I grew up in Roseville, (my parents still live there) and thats where I do the majority of my welding and other tool/labor intensive work. I'll probably be back down in the cities next weekend depending on weather and money.

I've had several friends who have/do live in, and I have worked at a company based in Bloomington so thats how I know the bacon so well down there. They impounded my BMW because they pulled me over for noise and then found out that I had a really old ticket which apparently never got cleared. (DPS can eat my ***!)

instead of a silencer or whatever, just stick a turbo on there . Best silencer on the market today.

I got a ticket for my exhaust in my old car. But it was imporer muffler. I'm in the process of fighting it. It's fully legal and I have proof.

Does it say any where in you laws that exhausts have to below a certain DBa?

Werid how imports get all the hassle about exhausts yet cops never bother a Mustang with stright pipes and Flowmasters.

among this topic....i have a complete free flow exhaust sitting in my shed. gutted converter and no mufflers. this is really loud and i notice when i had it on the vehicle that the engine rapped completely out in like 1 second. should i put this back on or does the engine need the back pressure for reliability

Try putting a glass pack in your exhaust system or get some different, quieter mufflers.

There is alot of misinformation in this thread. The cops do not need a decimal meter, and don't have to restrict their judgement to idle exhaust noises.

The limit in calfornia is 95 dB.

The price does not get written on the ticket; you get a "courtesy notice" telling you how much the court calculated it to be.

Just be glad the cop didn't know you weren't running CARB legal cats.

Lastly, decibel meters ca be had off of ebay for like $30. If you are sure it is legal, just get one and use it to show that the exhaust note is legal.

In Tennessee the sound law (probably not exhaust, I don't know) but it's if you can hear any audible noise 50 feet away it's too loud. I'm not sure how far that is.. but I'm sure the sound law is broken a lot.
