Few problems with my '90 Vert

Hey guys, new member here with a 1990 black RX7 convertible, and I had a few questions about it.

First, the driver's side window doesn't work. I've been using plyers to pull it up and down. Basically, when I push the switch, I can here the motor running, but no response from the window. The passenger side window works. So, is this a wiring problem, or is the motor probably blown, or something else?

Also, my ignition is getting a little annoying. I have to slide my key in, and jiggle it for about 30 seconds before I can set the car to lock, as apposed to acc. It's pretty annoying, and I was wondering if any of you guys have had this problem? I already had a new key made, and while that has made it better, it still feels like its jammed.

Also, I did search, and didn't find any topics about the ignition problem, so if you guys have any help that would be great

My driver's side window went last year... motor died though. You're sure the motor is still working?

As for the ignition, try turning the steering wheel left and right while you try to turn the key next time, let me know if that works.

Sounds like the lock cylinder is just worn out.
It is 17 years old after all and the problem is exacerbated by people's tendency to hang 40 lbs. of crap on their keychains.
A locksmith can rebuild the cylinder and make a new master key which should solve the problem, after which you should seperate the ignition key from everything else to keep the cylinder from wearing prematurely again.
You might consider pulling the door/hatch cylinders and have them redone at the same time.

If you can hear the window motor running, then the problem is probably not electrical. The problem would be a mechanical breakage inside the door. Sounds like it's time to take the door panel off and investigate.

As for the ignition switch, find a can of Silicone Spray. (Not WD-40, not Liquid Wrench...) You can find it at any automotive store and even at Walmart.

Silicone spray is clear and will clean the pins in the lock mechanism. Spray it directly into the lock. (Use sparingly!) Then insert the key and wiggle it around. Remove the key and wipe the black gunk off it. Repeat a couple of times till the ignition switch turns normally. This procedure also works on the exterior locks.

Alright, i removed the door panel and checked out the wiring..... doesn't seem to be any problems. When I push the switch, it sounds like the motor is trying way too hard..... so maybe i need a new regulator?

As for the ignition, problem solved, thanks guys.

Check the wire cable on the regulator. Is it still intact?
Check to make sure the window glass can run up and down in the track with no trouble.
The regulators tend to wear out in the verts and they are very expensive to replace.
There is a rebuilder in Houston, that will rebuild yours for about half the price of new, if that turns out to be your problem.

Also, a frequent fail item are the contacts in the switch on the door panel. Mine have to be taken out and cleaned every so often.

Woah! Regulators for the vert are expensive. Can you link me to that guy in Houston? Also, does anyone have any experience with the guys on ebay who sell the motor with the regulator for $250? Thanks

Thanks for the tips guys
