FD Gearbox into FC

Here are some pics of the adapter plate I had made to allow for the length difference between the FD and FC gearbox. Fot the rear end, I made up another plate for the mounting.

First off,I had the plate cut out, at the local plate cutter usingwater jet, then sent it to my engineer with both FC and FD bellhousing so he could replicate the pattern.

Have got the digital file if anyone is interested in one of these.

Wow, life is good for you Kiwis.

Now, on to brass tacks.
What is the point of adapting the FD tranny to your FC?

Serious question, really.

I'm pretty sure the FD and FC TII gearboxes are of the same type, if it's the gear ratios that you want, then why not swap the FD internals into the FD box?

Wrong - the S5/S6 share the same ratios and the only difference between the S4 and up is the overdrive. So the question remains...... why?

Why?

We managed to get get a whole lot of the FD boxes from an importer, so decided to give one a go, and the ratio's more to my liking than the FC box.

As for the other reasons, unless I had an FC box rebuilt I don't think I'd buy one second hand, I would from an importer, but the FD boxes a bit younger and hopefully not as thrashed as an FC box I could get second hand.

It never crossed my mind, I might have a look into that, the only thing that comes into mind there though, is the length of the input shaft, I'm pretty sure you'd need a plate in between the bell housing and gear box, or maybe just hack some length off the end of the input shaft.

I think the FD main shaft is a larger diameter and longer than the FC case, but I could be wrong.

I applaud your efforts, but a used tranny is a used tranny. W/ the same ratios nonetheless. Now if all this engineering work and machine time was free then if not.......

Or you could use the FD tranny in it's entirety and swap to an FD clutch. That'd solve the issues with input shaft length not matching up with the FC bellhousing, or just have the input shaft machined down to length, if there's enough material there to do that.

s6 gearbox bolts straight up to the fc 13b, im running one at the moment, just had to lengthen the driveshaft and cut off some meat to the left of the shifter for it to fit in the tunnel, its probably not worth the hassle of what your doing, infact I would prefer a s5 box now as my s6 one isnt that good and i dont like the pull type clutch

It only works if your names doesn't start with the letter "J"! :P

Side note, the Kouki FC turbo trans should have the same ratios as the FD box.

The OP does have a legit reason for doing this.
The thread is almost a year old. :P

Some more info on this subject:

SuperNow sells an adaptor kit like this guy made. You can find it for a little over $500.

Their reason for making one is that it is easier to find rebuild parts for an FD trans, especially as the cars continue to age. Make of that what you will, but the option is there.

Long shot, though...

Anyone willing to make an adapter plate to fit a Ford TKO trans to a 13B / 20B???
I'd pay big bucks for one!
