FC vs. Impala

I'm surious as to who would win. The competitiors are...

1996 Chevrolet Impalla SS - Stock ( 7.3 0-60; 15.6 ¼ )

vs.

1989 Mazda RX-7 GTU -

Stage II Streetport
Pineapple Racing 6th-port Sleeves
Electric Fan
Port-matched Intake
TB Mod
Street/Comp Clutch ( Nippon NNK, if anyone can find info )
Custom 2.5' Single Cat-back w/ Corksport Muffler
Custom 2.5' Mid-pipe w/ 1 high-flow cat

I'm curious because an ex wants to race me in the Impalla, and she's talking a lot of smack. So, I just got to doubting myself ( The engine's getting ported now, so I don't know my performance #'s yet ). Am I going to smoke her? I'm planning to get a TII fuel pump, 550cc secondairys, and an S-AFC. Should I do this before we race ( I'd have to scrounge for $$ ) or will I smoke her as it is?

1 more question. Is it true you're not supposed to use K&N filters for CAI's? I heard they'll take on water faster than the titanic.

Uhm, I don't think you'll beat it in a line. In corners, perhaps, but straight? Probably not a chance. You guys underestimate the 96 Impala's. Those thing's could fly stock with the sligtest of tinkering. It'll be quite an even match if it is truely stock. But I doubt it, it's nearly impossible to find a '96 Impala that hasn't been played with.

Her mom owns it. The girl's my ex. They are the only owners. Trust me, it's stock. I guess we'll see once I get it all together and broken in.

Anyone with something CLOSE to the mods listed want to take a guess as to who the winner will be?

Poor car, 96's are too damn rare to be left stock. Anyway, given that it's a mom's car, then you most likely will be able to beat it. I guess we shall see

Actually, now that you mention it... not only is it STOCK, but it hasn't had a tune-up since it was new. Yes, I know. Poor poor car...

I've seen some of those impala's run 13's stock, not sure how, but they managed it, that's why I'm not going to say who it's going to go to. They are big and heavy, but they sure can move. Good luck

13's stock? Nah, I don't think so.. They may have "said" they were stock.. Too damn heavy, hell, my TA is running mid 13s stock, but with 296RWHP (at the time), compared to 250-260 for most LT1s, and I'm 300+ lbs lighter.

I think you've got a shot, especially if she doesn't know how to stall up the car for the launch.. Just don't make a mistake or you'll be eating humble pie

heheh 13's stock eh... as i remember, even the callaway 454 impalla's would only get to about 14 seconds in the quarter mile. those things have alot of weight to move around (like ~4200 lbs on a 96ss), even if they do have big power.

You could get a high 14 with little to no problems, the 13's I think were the guys running 305 vortec heads.

Their STOCK ¼ is 15.6... Impala SS's were only avail. in automatic transmission. By what streach of the imagination are you thinking you can shave over .6 seconds off of a stock automatic car?

Skip the 550's all together. You don't need 'em.
Run the S-AFC and tune the engine before the run, with the stock injectors.

A ported motor on stock ECU, with intake, exhaust, TB mod, a port-matched intakes should whoop her! Easy.

The Impalas have 15 less hp (260) than the F bodies (275-285) due to a crappier exhaust manifold, not to mention the huge weight penalty they carry, making it even slower. I walked the hell out of one with my stock Z28.

You'll have it beat.

Your car stock should do 7.8 0-60, so with all those mods you will KILL her 7.3
